At the New York Comic-Con this weekend, it was announced that Marvel Animation is teaming up with the LEGO Group for a movie starring Black Panther. Marvel's VP of Animation Cort Lane made the news official when he revealed that the title will be Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda but no further details were revealed. However, chances are it will head straight to DVD/Blu-ray as opposed to theaters.

That means it probably won't quite be up there with The LEGO Batman Movie and will be more along the lines of past animated projects like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload. Those always come bundled with a LEGO minifigure and that should make this a must-have for toy collectors.

Black Panther Is Getting a LEGO TV Special

Marvel Animation is getting in on the LEGO movie magic by bringing their first solo minifigure film to life.

At New York Comic Con, Marvel Animation announced it would be teaming up with LEGO for a Black Panther TV special, titled Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda. This marks the second Black Panther project on the docket from Marvel, with a live-action film set to debut in February.

Previously, Marvel Animation released LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload. The previous film, however, was an ensemble flick while the new Black Panther title will center around only the Wakandan hero. If Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda is to follow in the footsteps of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload the special will most likely go straight to DVD.

Black Panther Is Getting His Own Lego Movie

Quote

As it turns out, T'challa will also be getting his own LEGO movie, Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda.

Details were scarce at New York Comic-Con where the announcement was made (via Newsarama). Beyond the title, nothing was confirmed, though the project is described as a "Marvel LEGO special" which would seem to imply this will be either a direct to Blu-Ray release, or even something that will air on television, like a Disney Channel movie. This almost certainly won't be a feature film. It seems like an odd place to start for a Marvel LEGO feature anyway. There have been other LEGO/Marvel projects in the past, but none of them have seen the big screen. Since Warner Bros., that owns DC, also produces the LEGO feature films, a Marvel-branded one is fairly unlikely.

Having said that, making a Black Panther LEGO movie is certainly a move that makes sense. Millions more people are familiar with the character following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, and his standalone movie is coming out early next year. Now is the time to strike while the iron is hot when it comes to Black Panther.

However, it isn’t just Thanos they’re forced to take on; rogue villains Killmonger and Klaue will team up with the Mad Titan to bring the fight to Wakanda, and Black Panther and the Avengers will need to defeat them before Wakanda is destroyed.
