Bakerbr13
Since it is slabbed, would that prevent the small staple tear from worsening?

But then again, that's just my own opinion for what it's worth.

I would like to display the comic but not sure if that is possible with a small top staple tear. See photo of staple tear.
badback83
I think A sounds a little better.

Do you have scans? Lists of defects aren't the only factor here, at least not for me. I'd need to see what the eye appeal of each book is since the technical grades are equivalent. chrisco37
FineCollector
I avoid staple tears like the plague. The example above shows that the staple didn't quite blow through the cover at the time of printing, but even shaking the book in the case can worsen that. Option A may look better, but I go for the structurally better book every time. Still concerned about the hole, though...

Yeah, pretty tough to assess without seeing what the books look like. I’ll add that if these are common books that are readily available, you may want to pick up a copy without tanning. mysterio
AndyFish
I'd have to see them-- I always go for the one that has color that pops.

larryfk
Probably A. That staple tear doesn't look too bad and sure beats multiple color breaking creases and spine stress.
mrc
Neither, I'd get one without tanning to the cover.
