RUMOR: The DC Films Universe May Introduce The Legion Of Doom Over The Course Of Several Movies

At the end of Justice League [SPOILER ALERT], Deathstroke meets with Lex Luthor and the latter talks about forming a League of their own. While most of us have assumed that's a reference to the Injustice League, a new report points to the Legion of Doom coming together in the DC Films Universe instead.

While Warner Bros. isn't planning a Legion of Doom movie, it's said that the studio is moving toward putting the team together, presumably to set the stage for them to assemble in Justice League 2.

We'll reportedly see something in regards to that at next year's San Diego Comic-Con and Aquaman will feature another tag relating to the Legion (Black Manta has often been associated with the Injustice League, so that actually makes perfect sense). This is obviously a very different approach to world-building and while a Justice League sequel is far from confirmed at this stage, creating the Legion like this means the door is now wide open for the two teams to go to war somewhere down the line.

Why The Legion Of Doom Could Be The Missing Piece Of The DCEU Puzzle

Justice League may have been a fairly self-contained story, but it opened the door for an exciting new era in DC's cinematic franchise. During the film's post-credits scene, a newly-freed Lex Luthor met with Deathstroke to offer him a spot in a new villain team he was forming in light of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman joining forces.

Now, however, if a new rumor is to be believed, we may have an idea of what Warner Bros. plans to do with the baddie-themed team.

El Fanboy recently put out a report touching on the new route #WarnerBros. is taking with the DCEU. The site alleged that WB is planning to make the Legion of Doom an integral part of its superhero franchise, and build them up with little teases in different movies, similar to what Marvel did with Thanos. While the studio will reportedly hold off on any major news for the time being, they plan to make an announcement during San Diego Comic-Con 2018:

"They're working on something cool for [San Diego Comic Con 2018], related to [Legion of Doom]. They want to continue planting seeds and building momentum for the team."

Now, there are only three DC movies coming our way in the next two years (Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2 and Shazam!), so you're probably wondering when the seeds to this nefarious super team will come. Well, according to El Fanboy, the teasing will continue in James Wan's #Aquaman:

"Things will be generally quiet on the DC front until 'Aquaman' hype begins, but I can tell you that there will be another L.O.D. tag at end of that."

Black Manta –– played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen III –– will also make his presence felt. Given that the man has been one of the Legion of Doom's traditional members for a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as another piece of the puzzle for #LexLuthor's villainous team.
