What's with the "Infinity War" this and that in so many ebay listings?

I find it difficult to see that anything could be described as such prior to the Bronze Age's Iron Man 55.

Avengers 57, Captain Marvel 4, Dr. Strange 180, Thor 130, Thor 133, FF 66, TOS 80... all Infinity War/Gauntlet and many, many more. I see pre-IM 55 Amazing Spider-mans with those keywords! lol

Some people are preying on the uninitiated in the hopes of making some money.  Plain and simple.  It bothers me enough that the "Infinity War" miniseries saw a bump in price simply because it shares the same name as the movie, despite having nothing to do with it plot wise.

Yup. Easy to see the pitfalls if you've actually been reading this stuff for decades and have knowledge about where and when the ideas used in the film actually originate.

What comic is the movie based on? There's an Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos, that's about it.

The Infinity Stones are Bronze Age, Thanos has more or less always been portrayed as a sociopathic nihilist, but, the core of the film, as you've said, is primarily very early 90s, starting with Thanos Quest and Infinity Gauntlet.

The idea is based off the Infinity Gauntlet series. The movie reflects nothing of the sort. The Black Order is from the Infinity event, much later. Again, doesn't really have to do with the movie.

The movie is it's own iteration. So, knowing what happens in the comics doesn't really help.

Forgot about The Black Order-  having read Infinity last year, as well.doh!

The films use characters or concepts from the comics and present them quite often in a simplified, commercialised manner rather than being literal transfers. They do tend to be mashups from different periods, such as GOTG having Yondu from the SA , and also Knowhere, which appeared in Nova during the Annihilation saga.

It's more about how the eBay listings are misleading or exploitative of ignorance about what's in their SA books.

It's a keyword tactic used so that your item comes up in more search results.

I.E. When someone lists a PGX book, they also put CGC and CBCS in the title, as people are usually looking for those only. It's worked on me, found an absolute steal on a PGX 9.2 book for $75 that was normally going for $200+ It actually looks better than that yet.

It's technically not allowed on eBay, but it's used so often that it's impossible to stop.

The Infinity Gauntlet is the disappearance of 50% of the population, and an assemblage of heroes fighting Thanos.  I hink reading the story gives you a good idea what Thanos is capable of.

I am going to list a pair of old shoes in two weeks with Infinity War in the title.   Wait and see.

List them as Infinity Loafers. Bend a couple of paper clips into figure eights and install them through where the pennies should normally go instead..

No on all three...

I actually wore these shoes to Infinity War... been wearing my summer loafers around even more once they started shredding.  My old shoes seem to go for more than I originally paid for them when they were new it seems.  (Well sometimes.)  I usually get at least half back.

You could add to the end of the listing "not INFINITY WAR".

List only one "sole".  To help the wearer become "perfectly balanced, as all things should be."

It's like getting a free pair of footwear for every two pairs I sell... that normally would have been thrown in the trash.   It's surreal.

Marketing for a little more $$.
Like in the original comic art market; splash pages have begat "half-page splash pages" and "semi-splash pages".
Madmen-like embellishment and aggrandizement is not longer exclusive to Madison Avenue.  The dollar is all.
