danchoi03
Hello Guys, I am new to this forum. The reason I am here today is because I just bought Batman The Dark Knight Returns # 1 from eBay and I noticed a defect on the comic. There is a smudge but it doesn't look like a fingerprint. Is this smudge a manufacturing defect? If not how much grade will I lose if I submit the comic to CGC? Thanks.

comicquant
It almost looks like damage from a drop of water that was pressed out. Parabellum
danchoi03
If this is water droplet, can I do pressing and cleaning to remove this smudge?
Silver_Couch_Surfer
I would return it. I don't think that could be pressed out but don't quote me on it.

First off, I think you have a misunderstanding of just what a press/clean can accomplish and it will not help here. I would return this book immediately. Don't even try to fix it. Return it. danchoi03
Thanks guy, I just initiated a return for the book. It is a shame since everything about the book is in perfect condition.

No, water damage can't be removed and dry cleaning typically doesn't remove smudges. Its probably the water affecting the gloss as opposed to a smudge. Either way, pressing/dry cleaning won't address the issue.
Dick Pontoon
Tough to tell from the photos, but it might also be residue from an old price sticker.
