That is surprising.

Well I guess the only rule in the pest world is there are no rules.

as I said they ate the ENTIRE insides out of a stack of slick paper magazines.  GONE

No they would have to be drywood termites.

These were definitely subs-we found their underground tunnels as well as those little tunnels they build out of termite droppings coming out from underground up the beams.

Then there must have been a lot of moisture in or on the comic, no?

Yes indeed.  They brought moisture up with them.  I paid them back as best I could by putting termite filled chunks of wood on my standing heater and watched em scramble about trying to get away until they shriveled up into....nothingness.

Merry Christmas to you anyway my friend.

Your dilemma seems strangely odd, but maybe west coast termites are different than East coast ones.

This is sacramento and river sand type soil.

Most of the chewin was like that-around periphery.  For some reason a lone mite decided to wander to center of book and chew thru on the superman book.

When we treated home with them underground injections, suddenly neighbors on both sides got infested.  We didnt get rid of them all but did cause em to branch out underground for more hospitible lodgings.
