The Irishman and DeAging in Movies...

Some random thoughts...

I was patiently awaiting the release of this trailer.  I mean who wouldn't?  From the official Netflix description: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century.

While the star power in the movie is unquestionable and it is a pleasure to see the return of Pesci, the de-aging process cannot be ignored.  When Captain America: Civil War arrived in theaters we were treated to a 80's version of Robert Downey Jr in his BARF technology psychiatrist session as he relived a moment with his parents.  We were astonished in Ant Man and Avengers: End Game when they reversed Michael Douglas' age so we could go back in time to see him when he worked with SHIELD.    Earlier this year a circa 1995 Samuel L Jackson starred in Captain Marvel.  Back then the Hollywood Reporter Article (HERE) had a good point in that we would be further distancing ourselves from the reality of what these actors act and sound like on film.

The primary concern was that of achievable and realistic images for the public in contrast to what is considered glamorous on screen as well as 'digitally' creating the actor you wanted or needed to sidestep actual actors. However there have been many positives when it comes to this.  Does the next Indiana Jones movie necessarily need to be a sequel to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull or can we de-age Ford so that it takes place before that movie?  Star Wars: Rogue One pushed the boundaries in raising the dead and deaging Fisher.   Since then the technology has drastically improved....

So... with that said... where are we going with this technology... and how will it be used... and what are the consequences both good and bad... ?
