With all the focus on information posted on social media which may be fake and/or meant to misinform, Twitter now requires such posts to indicate sponsorship.

Our first candidate...

This means Disney paid Variety to post this article. You know, the company people say definitely doesn't pay news sites or critics for more positive handling.

The FTC's required such disclosures on Instagram and Snapchat for 2+ years now.

My understanding is they revised the rules to include Twitter and other social networks this past January, and there was a major court case that added clarity to the rules (esp. about Twitter) in September.

Now this makes more sense as this just started popping up. Including from accounts that look like any other average Twitter member all of sudden noting "#sponsored" with their posts. :whatthe:
