Secret Origins of Super Villains #1 - Printing Error Question

2 posts in this topic

The 1999 Secret Origins of Super Villains #1 80 Page Giant was published with a Print Run wide printing error on the spine. On every single book there is a shadowy looking stain that runs the length of the book. The darkness varies from issue to issue, but every copy I've seen has this flaw. A friend recently submitted 2 copies to be graded and they cam back 6.5 and 7.0. He was hoping that since the flaws were printing errors that they would be overlooked, or not count as strongly against the grade.

When a book has such a flaw, something that effected the entire print run, is it usually held against the book so firmly? If so, does that mean 7.0 or 7.5 would be the highest possible grades for such a book?

Hello thanks for your message. Manufacturing errors in comic books are typically easily identified and known by our grading team. There *may* be a deduction, but how much would depend on the size and intensity of the error- along with the grade of the book otherwise. The final grade would depend on all the total defects for the entire book.  If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Have a great day!
