And here it is -- Amazing Spider-Man 252.  Tied with Marvel Team-Up #141 for the first appearance of the black costume (which will later meet up with Eddie Brock and become the one and only Venom!).  Cover swipe of Amazing Fantasy 15 for good meaure.

This copy is not only a 9.8, but it has also been signed by 4 contributors -- writer Tom DeFalco, artists Ron Frenz & Klaus Janson, and editor Jim Shooter.

Let us also marvel (no pun intended) for a moment at the signature placement on this book.  No wording has been signed over, no signatures obscuring faces, none of that.  Truly a signature series masterpiece.

Blue label 9.8s are starting to approach $500, and who knows what the future will look like for signature opportunities in this current era of social distancing.  All that said, asking...
