I thought they were just leading(hoping) into season two. Bosco685
Quote There will be no second season of Willow, Disney+’s live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. The news comes two months after the eight-episode first season of the show, which served as a sequel to the classic movie, ended its run on the streaming platform. Willow, which picked up years after the events of the film, did not have the zeitgeist cultural impact of the original but was well received by critics, getting a 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. While the series won’t continue, Willow remains an important IP in the Lucasfilm library, so it might be revisited in the future.
Pitboss
Hold Up, ‘Willow’ Isn’t Canceled After All Kasdan explained that “A decision was made last week to release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year. With all the TV and movies in production around the world, it feels unfair to limit an actor’s availability without a clear sense of when you’re going to need them again. It’s further trivialized by the simple reality that the scripts we’ve been working on require just as many actors with whom no such contractual hold exists.” Kasdan went on to explain that the decision to release the actors was made because Willow Volume 2 won’t be filming within the next year, due to the slowdown in streaming shows in general. “Are we going into pre-production [for Willow Volume 2]? Not right now. Does that mean we’re never gonna make it? Absolutely not.” Hold Up, ‘Willow’ Isn’t Canceled After All (msn.com) I like pie and Bosco685 1

Yes, scripts are written, but this is saving face on his part, not reality. There are countless scripts circulating Hollywood that will never be made, so writing it means nothing. Plus, if the cast members do sign contracts elsewhere, and have other commitments putting the group back together is a logistical nightmare. Thd show was one of the lowest viewed D+ originals. It may have been in the Neilson streaming top 10 once, but I am not sure it even managed that. It was very expensive to make, and Disney is cutting costs. Not very hard to do the math and see this show is toast, at least in it's current form.
