How much do you trust your grading skills?

** This is a question that excludes collectors from the CGC grading Dept. :

 

When making a comic purchase, even with the comic in your hands, at what monetary point do you stop and say hey I'd better buy a Graded comic to make sure it is the real deal...

I feel confident up to $100. Anything beyond that I'll probably CGC grade first. As time goes by and my grading and restoration detection skills get better, I may go up to $500.

My grading skills are reasonable in the 8.0 - 9.4 range but with anything else I really struggle (though I am getting better with the help of the kind folk on the CGC grading forums). For high dollar books ($200+) I tend to go for slabs or trusted dealers.

I have no problem with buying any raw book I can put my hands on and look over -- regardless of price.

 

The only place I really think a slab helps is when making remote purchases. In that case I would not drop more than $250 - $300 unless I already knew the seller.

Anything over $100 I buy graded,I don't buy expensive raw books these days,just readers and stuff that hasn't been reprinted yet.....
