Star Wars Heir to the Empire No. 1 Spine Issues with Printing 0

I would greatly appreciate anyones input on this copy of SWHE#1.  The printing process on this cover has made the spine look split?  Anyone submit one like this?  How much will it effect grading?  Other than the half inch flake on the bottom spine corner it is a solid 9.2 or better IMO.  Just no sure what the printing issue is going to do?  Please help me CGC Forums, your my only hope.  Cheers

I too would like to know this. I have a copy with the exact same issue.

If its a common enough production defect, wouldn't it be like bindery tears, only affecting the very highest grades?

My OO copy had a bit of this and I believe it’s considered a common manufacturing defect. The OP’s looks quite severe though.  I was worried when I submitted mine because it was a beautiful copy otherwise. It came back 9.6

That's a relief, I recently had a sale and I noted the defect and a pic of it. It unfortunately sat, and none bought it. Even at 20%off my list. I was happy to hold onto it though.

I know a lot of my Dark Horse Star Wars comics have spine issues but this one didn’t.

Looks like Dark Horse must have been using the same printer back then that Marvel uses now.............
