Tghutcn
I wouldn’t recommend a press because of the split at the bottom of the spine I believe it is still able to be pressed even so the staples inside but others would know better then me it might clean up to what extent I’m unsure but at the moment I’d say it’s a 4 cause they are more lenient on the square bounds hope this helps you Namtak
Funnybooks
What’s the length of the split? Can you measure it? Thank you

Funnybooks
I believe the book is safe to clean and press but I'm not sure it bumps the the grade up but the book will present nicer. The downside risk is that the length of the split increases. The grade probably stays around 4.0/4.5 even if the split increases an inch or less, but, if the split creeps towards 2.5 inches or more, the book will fall into the 3.0/3.5 range. grendelbo and Namtak 1
grendelbo
4.5 Don't press. It won't address the biggest flaws of this copy (moderate spine and edge wear) and it's unlikely to improve the grade. Pressing can be hazardous to (older) books that already have structural issues like a spine split or loose staples, centerfold, etc. Thanks for posting. nonquixote
Your copy might not be worth pressing, but square bound books can be pressed. In fact a good pressing can help with staple bumps that might already be there. The trick is to press with a flat surface sandwiched under the front and back covers. Also, be careful not to put pressure directly on the spine since it can cause it to become rounded. I leave the spine protruding over the edge of the press about 1/16 of an inch or so, just enough to prevent it getting squashed. FoggyNelson
It’s worth a grade if you can wait a year , nice key would look better in new slabs👍‼️ 1950's war comics and Namtak 1
AJD
4.0/4.5 I think a press wouldn't change that - the split and the tear and creasing on the lower edge probably keeps it in that range anyway. Funnybooks

Galen130
Pics are dark and blurry (some of them), but I’ll go 4.5/5.0.
