Fukuoka
I want to get better at grading comics, so I would appreciate any advice. I am puzzled on grading, especially the lower grades. Here is my copy of Superman 60. All pages intact as far as I can determine--but as you can see, one page is loose. Spine roll, wear on edges, etc. Also, some handwriting on the back cover--handwriting practice and some math practice? Thank you in advance for your time. grendelbo
The books looks GD+ maybe GD/VG before you get to the back cover. I'm not sure what CGC will say but I won't ding this copy much more for the writing and there's always the GA bump. 2.0/2.5 Thanks for sharing. Fukuoka
Thank you very much for the valuable advice. I was thinking that the loose page was far worse damage than the writing, but the latter is easily seen when slabbed, so I guess it makes sense. By the way, is there actually an official GA bump? Sorry if that question is dumb. But I wonder if professional graders do give books a bit of extra credit for lasting so long.

zzutak
Point of clarification: does this copy have a detached leaf (2 pages) or a detached wrap (4 pages)?

There does seem to be some leniency by CGC toward Golden Age comicbooks, both in general grading and with specific flaws. Anything official? I don't think so. Sometimes it gets out of hand though - see the Promise Collection thread in the GA forum. Personally, whatever I think a book is, if it's before 1956 I'll bump it up a half grade, sometimes a full grade. Fukuoka

Detached leaf (a single page printed both sides--so 2 pages of story). Thanks for the clarification of terms.
zzutak
No problem -- even CGC misuses the term. Superman #60 is billed as a "52 Page Magazine" -- which consists of a 4-page cover plus a 48-page (or 24-leaf or 12-wrap) interior. Fukuoka
Back from CGC today. Hit 0.5, disappointing but I miscalculated the page count--seems like one is missing. Thanks for everyone's expert opinions.
