PGM Avengers #47 - First Appearance of Dane Whitman (aka Black Knight) 3 3

From the recent Ian Penman Collection sale for Avengers #47. 

Interior has 1 inch tears on page 3 and 5 (see below)

Slight edge/corner wear, tear/split with apparent color break on spine by Goliath's head in the corner box, staples are not centered, a couple of minute stress lines on spine, slightly fanned pages, interior tears.

IMO, the interior tears keep this book from being a higher grade.

An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.

Thanks this far. I'm particularly keen to understand impact of the tears on interior pages on the grade. Is a grade beyond 8.5 possible with both those if book is cleaned and pressed? Or is 8.5 the ceiling here?

I think with one 1" tear you possibly could get a 9.0 but with two pages effected it'll cap at VF+.

tough one...appears 8.5 but will downgrade with the tear to 8.0
