i think i might have read something somewhere about how publishers used to not like having "issue 1" on the cover, since it was thought harder to get people to buy into a 'new book' and that they were more likely to buy a book which had been going on for a while.

or, i am making it up, which is entirely possible and in many cases the more likely circumstance but i slog on anyway
