Jesse-Lee
I just posted this in the general collection thread, but thought it might be fun to share here too: I don't typically collect cards, but I saw these on eBay and went for them on a whim. In 1966, Topps/O-Pee-Chee printed multiple sets of Batman trading cards due to the popularity of the new Batman television show. Three of the most popular card sets were painted by Norman Saunders. The three sets are nicknamed the Black Bat (series 1, 55 cards), Red Bat (series 2, 44 cards) and Blue Bat (series 3, 44 cards), named for the color of the bat symbol on the front of each of the cards in the set. From what I could gather, full sets of these cards don't come up all that often, and when they do, they're pricey. This set of the Blue Bat puzzle back cards is very low grade, but it's complete. I stumbled across the auction while I was looking for Batman books, and it seemed like it was going under the rader - it had a starting bid of $25 (plus $10 shipping), and it was sitting with no bids until basically the close of the auction. I threw in a last-second bid and ended up being the winner at $28 with only 2 bids. Even though the set is very low grade, I think this was still a great deal at basically $1 a card after shipping/tax, and once I got them in sleeves and top loaders, I think they have a lot of character and look really cool!
