I don't remember what my first $10K purchase was (just checked - looks like it was an Enric Vampirella painting circa 2003 or 2004 that I subsequently lost 82% on when I sold it at auction in 2014  ).

What I do remember, however, is paying $100 or $150 for a mid-grade copy of X-Men #94 circa 1994-95, which was the most I had ever paid for a collectible (or anything that wasn't rent or work clothes) up to that point. Alas, that broke the dam of fiscal conservatism and turned me into the utter degen I am today.

When I started buying artwork I was $20 to $40 a page, always panel pages.

Fast forward to moving to Silicon Valley and seeing a Batman the Animated Splash at Heroes, I think it was $279.  I nervously bought it.

Then I bought these two Buscema Splash pages for under $500 each

I then stepped up to over $1000 when I bought this splash

And then my big leap to $5000 on this cover

Then I decided to go after a nice Peanuts Daily and snagged one for just under $30k

Since then I have spent more on a single piece of work but still under the $50k mark and likely to stay there.
