If you need scans for book reproduction at 400-600dpi then you need a higher end scanner.

 

I decided to try this one out. The scanner for art was fine but as you had mentioned, not for comic books. I may have to return this one and keep looking for something that handles both. Here are the comparisons for the art. One taken with a cell phone and the other with the scanner listed above.

Those still look good for a phone. Now I'm convinced...my phone is just trash.  Nice pieces btw

I did these with the new scanner today and there's a vast improvement when retaining pencil detail. Not too bad for an inexpensive scanner ($230 bucks I believe)
