I've been blown away on bids that I though were out-of- control on both cage books and stan lee file copies. I'm still holding onto two of the former and one of the latter. although if I get beat out on the cage books tonight, that money might go to work on the Lee file copies.

I think the Cage book wanna-bidders are starting to trickle over to the regular signature auction because a lot of those prices are starting to go up up up to numbers we haven't seen in months...it's interesting to see people are willing to pay these prices AND a buyer's premium..instead of buying them on eBay for a LOT less.

Buying which? the books in the cage collection or books in the regular signature auction? If it's the books in the regular auction then I'm with you... I'm not going to spend a dime, ever, on a "regular" book at heritage. there's no point.

 

That said, if I'm still high bidder in 4 hours on the Cage lots I'm still king of the mountain on- I'll happily fork over the money (two to four times guide plus a buyer's premium for less than NM books.) The same goes with the other stuff I look to a place like Heritage for- Mile Highs, Gaines File Copies, Stan Lee File Copies (which I'm still in the running for.) Books like that have an appeal to me that goes beyond issue/number/grade and that is the one place where I'm not a cheap .

This is an urban legend - you can buy regular/common books cheaper via Heritage (even after the buyer's premium) than on ebay, so just b/c it's a Heritage auction does not mean it's more expensive, and I wouldn't rule anything out without taking a look at the bottom line. Case in point - I'm looking for a nice Avengers 3 - an 8.0 closed on Heritage for the same price (actually, a little less) than a 7.5 on ebay, within a matter of days.

 

Also, look at this - Captain America 38 CGC 5.0 sold on ebay for $850 on 9/26, a mere 2 months after being purchased in the July Heritage auction for $600.

urban legend? I just watched ASM issues ranging in the 60's to 90's go for less on eBay then the current internet bid on heritage. The only thing I've ever seen go cheap on there (that I've actually paid attention to) are Captain America issues.

As you can see by drbanner's clever use of the word "can", he was saying that it was "possible" to buy books at heritage for less than ebay. He wasn't saying that every heritage sale was cheaper than it's counterpart ebay sale.

That's more than I would pay but then again I can't even count the # of times I've paid over guide for something I wanted. Can't be afraid to bid big on something you really want... if you pass up the good stuff when it's offered, you'll always regret it later, IMHO.

 

Hope you get the book. That bid takes some "cajones." smile.gif

I ended up getting two. I overpaid, but, in the grand scheme of things I didn't spend all that much, so I'm happy. The novelty of it made the little extra expenditure worthwhile.
