Is restoration common among GA books?

This hatred of restoration is getting really silly. Yes, it was overdone during the 80s and 90s. But, there are several books that were restored to keep from deteriorating. There are only so many copies of Action 1 & Detective 27 as well many other early golden age books.

Would you rather these books disappear forever or be restored?

you are correct..there are "several" books restored for the purposes of preservation...that means the overwhelming majority were restored solely for the purpose of visual enhancement.

Call me old school, but I'll take a VG- unrestored of any book all day long, over an "apparent" VF of the same title. If a comic book was printed in 1938, it should be made of paper, ink, and staples from 1938. when you add 1998 rice paper and color touch, it defeats the whole purpose of collecting older comics. Action 1 and Detective 27 are not in risk of turning to dust if left alone....not yet, anyway. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
