WHITE WHALES PART 2

I would include Swordquest Waterworld mini-comic that came with the Atari game . I have only seen 2 or 3 in the past few years on E-Bay.

Are you referring to a specific issue because the Atari Game comic are all over Ebay, both in completed and current auctions.

Yes, the Swordquest Waterworld which was the third in the Swordquest series is quite rare. The game was produced in sparse numbers and is tough to find and the comic was included in the box with the game. The first two issues are easy to find but #3 is a bear.

I've heard rumors that the print run was as low as 100 copies, but have absolutely no confirmation on that at all. When I spoke with the guys at the Mich. State Special Collections department, they did not know all the details either.

I know Ewan has done extensive research on this book as well. Kind of our little "pet project" a few years back.

Indeed, from the research...

100 copies produced; signed and numbered in red ink by Cat Yronwode at the bottom of a variant page which explains amblyopia (variant page replaces the full-page ad for Mr. Monster no.3). Purchased only by mail order. Cost 2.5 times cover price. Has slightly thicker paper & stiffer cover. 3 known copies - 1 owned by XXXXX XXXXXX, a UK collector, no.92 /100 (and where this info came from); 1 owned by Michagan State University; 1 sold on eBay US in 2002 for around $150 (from memory).

I offered upto £400 / $800 for the copy detailed above without success! 893whatthe.gif

BTW many Eclipse titles had these 2D variants - e.g. Mr Monster

893whatthe.gif Man, I wish I would've had MSU copy the entire book for me. We would've had the print run #'s a few years back. foreheadslap.gif

I would be curious if the Swordquest: Airworld comic was ever printed. Waterworld was part 3 of what was supposed to be 4 parts. Atari had contests to go along with each of the games, and the prizes (a crown, a scepter, a sword, and something else I can't remember) were all actually made. I forget what the fourth object was, but if I remember correctly the president of Atari at the time has it above his fireplace now. In any case, if the prize for Airworld was made, and the prototype rom is available all over the net, it is plausible that the packaging and the comic were printed.

What about those Golden Age DC ashcans? Aren't those really rare? I think there's a thread on their history somewhere around here, but anyway... If I recall correctly somebody brought one of those to a forum dinner last year. (Not that I was there - saw a photo.)

Has anybody seen a copy of Giant Comics Editions #2 published by St.John. Ive seen every single issue in this run except number 2. It might be worth considering adding it to the list.

I have never seen it and in fact I have never seen a #1 or #3 either. I did have a #4 (which is missing in Gerber also). If you have a pic of any of these please post them up here or in the Gerber No-Shows thread.

No sorry i dont have any pics. I just remember over the years i have seen them all for sale either from collectors or dealers. I have just NEVER seen a #2 for sale. I assume because there is a #1 and #3 that a #2 does exist but for some reason had a very very low distribution.
