Trying something New

It's only expensive if I buy it.

Years (and Years) ago I asked a person that I have came to know and trust what they could recommend to read. They went directly to the back issue bin and showed me a run of issues of Daredevil. I picked up my first one and was enthralled. After the original series of The New Mutants was cancelled I started to complete my Daredevil run, if I were a better collector I would probably already have the collection complete. I am happy to say that I am only six issues away from a complete run. Although I am having a great time collecting encapsulated books my first and foremost love is to read them.

I am not a DC fan. Marvel is the company I fell in love with, the characters, the artwork, the stories, and well especially the covers (wouldn?t that be under artwork) but once in a while I enjoy reading a story just for the story. The Blackest Night is the newest story to enthrall me. I knew from the second I saw it that I would love it but I made a decision to not collect outside my collection and this meant not to collect anything I don?t already love. I picked up the All Star Series from DC and lately I love the Batman and Robin and I have collected Green lantern off and on (love the Emerald Dawn series). I now wait for the trade to come out and read the story straight through. (Blackest Night was great after all).

So here I am at the local Philadelphia Comic-Con Picking up Daredevil #27, marking it off my want list, and the gentleman who owns the comics I am looking at I have gained a respect for, a respect enough to ask him what I only asked one other person, what do you recommend. I wanted a silver age book, I wanted something with a good story, and I wanted something well written. He asked me what I liked, and then showed me a few Batman comics. Even though I don?t collect them I looked them over and thought the covers were great. I picked up Detective Comics #388 & #408 and Batman #237. I haven?t read them yet but I will directly after work.

Now I know that when I first started Daredevil I was not thinking about getting all of them and I hope that I will not feel that way with The Detective and Batman run, but if I do I know that I will first have to collect the full run of Uncanny X-men and Amazing Spider-Man.

Thanks for Reading
