July 28th Economy's are graded!

Well, today was finally the day. After calling and bugging the CGC staff every other day for the past three weeks (sorry Nicole & Jenna(?)) I was rewarded with news that my economy submission from July 28th had been given 'preliminary grades!'

I can't tell you how important this was to me, as this order of eight books was my very first submission to CGC -- I went thru Heritage Auctions, thus I couldn't check order online --and I had submitted the books just to get an idea how similar comics in my newly acquired collection would grade.

Since that time, I have joined CGC and had 2 other orders submitted and returned, but this original order was a straight forward economy one that I turned in - not aware of the backlog that comic cons can cause, etc. -- (from now on I always will fasttrack!)

Anyway, this was also an important litmus test to decide if I should bother slabbing other books. If they graded poorly, then what was the point, right? When I first started inventorying the collection from my father-in-law, I couldn't even guess to the quality of the books. I had read the grading guidelines in Overstreet & on comicshop websites, but I was still in the dark.

I didn't carry much hope of decent grades for the books, and expected all of them to end up being 'reader' copies.

Happily I was wrong. I shipped my order back in July with a Wonder Woman 126, Captain America 100,(a low quality copy, but I wanted to slab it anyway) and then six older issues of X-men between 15 - 100.

Most of the collection was X-men, so I was mostly curious how they would turn out.

My uneducated estimates (and to keep my hopes down) were that the WW and CaptAmerica would grade around 4 or 5, and all the X-men would be in the 7.0 range. -- I was hopeful, but trying to be realistic.

Well, surprise! Turns out I'm a horrible grader.

I should definitely stick with my day job!

The WW was a 7.0

CA was a 6.0 (I'll take it!)

and all the X-men were either 8.0 or 8.5

EXCEPT for the X-men #100 that came back a 9.4!!!!

Can't tell you how much that made my day! And if you haven't guessed by now, I am totally addicted to collecting... I'll be sending another order (not economy!) back to CGC soon!!

This is so much fun!
