or The Last To Be Named

We all have that ONE book that made us pick up the next one. I can attribute that book to New Mutants #15, I think if you are reading this, then you know that already, but what made me pick up that book? Was it the Star Wars treasury edition, was it Richie Rich Millions #79, Could it have been DC Comics #502, or Batman #313, possibly Action Comics 507, which the cover was so good I read over and over again without even opening the comic books pages. There are many different comic books I have owned before I started collecting. As much as DC even had a part of my beginning days, so did Marvel with Fear #8, Supernatural Thrillers #2, Tales of Suspense #97, and the book taking up the number three slot...

Sub-Mariner #38.

The cover was the typical iconic hero flies away, this time it is under water. Sub-Mariner poses, dropping trident and Crown and vows to be the Prince of Atlantis no more on this cover by Marie and John Severin. This captured my young eyes and imagination to what I thought would be the coolest thing ever, breath underwater. As much as I tried in the bathtub, I was only able to hold my breath, who knew of gills at this young age. After reading the inside along with other comic books like Crazy #3 and multiple Richie Rich books somewhere, somehow, no family members noticed. My sister, who I loved to read to me, would do so with the likes of Dr. Seuss, How babies were made, and The Chosen Child. Comic books became a secret read.

The Star Wars treasury edition stayed in my Grandfather's car and remained there until the car was sold. The book very well might still reside in my mother's house sitting in what was known as the toy closet. The Sub-Mariner 38 travelled with me and is currently missing while my New Mutants #15 is currently encapsulated as a 4.5 SS. And to which I might add will be having Stan Lee sign it along with Bob McLeod; I wonder is this money wasted.

The Sub-Mariner I have in a 9.8 is the second one I have. I was out bid on the first one I tried to obtain, a double cover pedigree. I was not going to let this one escape and I prevailed. I keep going up in my most expensive comic and purchasing these books help me realize that buying a pair of pants for $55 isn't that bad.

I hope you enjoyed my top ten. I have another list ready and that shall be revealed another time. I am preparing myself for Wizard World. My press credentials were approved and I hope to do the event justice. Mind you I will be writing this from the viewpoint that is a pop culture event not a comic con, more on that later. Please follow the link and any support you could give would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for Reading
