Back in May I attended the Phoenix Con and submitted four modern books to CGC after obtaining signatures from Peter David and Bret Blevins. I dont usually collect graded copies of modern books but these were Xmen appearances and I couldnt pass up the opportunity to have them signed by the creators. A couple of weeks ago I saw they had hit Graded status...after Tnerb talked me down from the ledge I opted not to peek at the grades until they arrived in my hot little hands. Well, now they are here so I can share with you all...

I opened up the box and saw the grades were facing up so I immediately turned them over so I could flip them one at a time to see the grades. Flipped the first one.

Hulk 336, XFactor appearance. Predicted 9.8 and received 9.8SS...Peter David

Nice, I got one right. Man, now Im really hoping issue 337 graded 9.8 as well so I can have a matched set.

Flipped the next one.

Xmen 211, Mauraders first appearance, CGC 9.8 given to me by Ronnylama...thank you again my friend...signed and sketch by Bret. Expected 9.8 and received 9.8SS

Im really glad this one retained its grade. Even better, bagofleas footed the bill for the grading as a thank you for getting some of his New Mutants issues signed. Thank you again kind sir.

Flipped the third one.

Hulk 340, Hulk vs. Wolverine. Predicted 9.2, maybe a 9.4 after pressing and received 9.6SS...Peter David

Wow, this was a pleasant surprise. Pressing really paid off in this case. Ive always loved this cover and now I have a great looking signed copy. Yea.

Flipped the last one.

Hulk 337, XFactor appearance. Predicted 9.8 and received 9.8SS...Peter David

Yes, a matched set of 9.8SS and without pressing even. Score. I did pretty well with these moderns and may need to consider doing it again sometime if the right issues and creators come along.

Til next time...
