Anyone remember this restaurant...
I was going through my closet this week looking for books to take with me to ECCC and ran across a kids menu I kept from the Marvel Mania restaurant in Hollywood, just outside Universal Studios. They opened briefly in November of 1998 and I was able to visit once before they were gone forever. They offered food and drinks based on almost every Marvel hero and villain that you could imagine, not to mention they also had a cool gift shop. The food wasnt great, but who cares, everything was Marvel themed so I loved it. Some of the items from the kids menu...hey, I wonder if I can send this into CGC, haha...include Uncanny XPasta, Caps Battle Burger, Dare Dog, Defenders Tenders, Wolverines Grilled Cheese, Mighty Mutant Mac and Cheese, and Champions Cheese Pizza. Yum, right.
The day we went I also got to meet Norrin Radd himself, the Silver Surfer. I even got a picture with him and my son...who was only 2 at the time so he didnt fully understand the awesomeness of this occasion, . Good times. Sadly and inexplicably the restaurant was closed less than a year later, in September of 1999. Luckily I did pick up a couple of souvenirs from the gift shop as we left...a Marvel Mania ice cream shake glass, and an oversized book on how to draw the Silver Surfer. These things sit in my closet still, but it brings a smile to my face anytime I see them because of the great memories associated with them. Here to hoping they open another such restaurant at some point so others can make some memories of their own.
Til next time...
