Aha! Found my proper login. Ignore that imposter above :-)
What's up with my custom title? That's a mess.

I saw it last night. To say I enjoyed it would be like saying I 'enjoyed' Leaving Las Vegas, but OK yes I enjoyed it. Sombre and sad. Prof X and Logan are very well played. X-23 has two jobs for 90% of the film: sullen and feral.
There seems to be a message in there about recognising and appreciating those little islands of happiness and meaning in an otherwise bleak and futile existence.

Spoilers
What did anyone think of Cassian's questionable morality? I recall twice that he deliberately killed friendlies. Early on he executed his companion, presumably because he knew they couldn't both escape. Later he shoots someone about to throw a grenade at the Stormtroopers' vehicle, because the grenade would also have been in Jyn's direction (if I understood that moment correctly).
Later he explains that he has done many terrible things, and that he can only live with himself because he did them for the greater good. So a standard 'ends justify the means' argument.
Is he a hero? I think he was just a man in a bad environment with no higher principles, but his time with Jyn changed him. I think he died a hero, having never been one until then.

One thing though, I can't help thinking kyber crystals are unfortunately named. Sounds like something you stick up your Khyber (as in Khyber Pass).

Bloody marvellous prequel. Borrows well from Seven Samurai, which is an excellent and fitting thing to do given Star Wars' origins. A fantastic band of memorable characters which I will be needing in toy form.
Also, my 8 year old daughter says it is now her favourite film. She came out of it considerably more enthused than when we saw Fantastic Beasts (and she's a big Potter fan)

Started watching this. Entertaining enough to keep going for now.
Lucifer is a cross between David Tennant and Tim Curry. His campy arrogance and wide-eyed grins are a little overdone and grating at times.
That's an interesting way to describe it. But I think it is being done purposely to convey how overly self-confident Lucifer is in his actions.
I watched Episode 4 last night, and liked it.
Chloe saw Lucifer's true image in a metal cabinet reflection. He told her to go ahead and shoot him, as it wouldn't even impact him physically. So she does, and he discovers his time on Earth is making him human.
Re: Spoiler, I'm not drawing any conclusions as yet on why that happened. It seems equally likely that it's something to do with Chloe. Mind you, I never read the Lucifer series, so maybe there's a whole bunch of relevant stuff I don't know. Agree that Ep4 was relatively decent compared to Ep2 and 3.

The Ballad Of Ike Perlmutter And Marvel ComicsAn Israeli war veteran who came to the USA with nothing, started the toy company Toy Biz. Licensing many Marvel characters as action figures, it was bought by Marvel, putting Ike on the Marvel board. During the Marvel bankruptcy, he ended up as the largest Marvel shareholder and CEO. Pursuing his vision into movie making, he mortgaged Marvel’s film rights to its characters against their success, got Iron Man made with Robert Downey Jr. He then leveraged that success to kickstar the whole Marvel Studios slate of movies, controlling them with a heavy hand. He then sold to Disney while remaining Marvel CEO and Disney’s largest single shareholder.
He's mates with Donald Trump. 'Nuff said.

I've been watching Smallville with my children (girl 8, boy 13) this year. We're near the end of season 6 and older boy is starting to talk about dropping it. I want to soldier on, because I never did watch season 10 back in the day.
-
I was a big Smallville fan. I even wrote an episode, which sat unread on the showrunner's desk for months. That -script came very close to getting me a writing staff position on a 2004 Flash TV series, but the studio didn't move forward with the show when they weren't happy with the showrunner's pilot -script.
Now that's interesting! Have you written other stuff too?

I thought Gordon was a goody-two-shoes. What's happening to modern tv and cinema these days? It's ok to go over the line. I am not going to take things too seriously but that was one part of the finale I didn't care about.
I know what you mean. I like my comicbook heroes to hold to powerful ideals, at virtually any cost. "It's what makes us better than them" etc. But as someone else pointed out, maybe we can see all this as formative. Maybe Jim's ideals will be tempered in these early years.

Y'all are crazy. Gotham is killing it with season 2. Season 1 was choppy, but had some very good parts. Season 2 has me clamouring for the next episode.
Of course, as soon as I say stuff like that it'll probably jump the shark next week.

Two new rumors:
http://heroichollywood.com/home-1/2015/11/18/ben-mendelsohn-villain-anton-arcane-justice-league-dark
Collin Farrel or Ewan McGregor as Constantine? Yes, please!
Ewan yes, Colin no!

Last night's episode of Arrow truly utilized Constantine in the way they SHOULD have embraced him on NBC. What a shame they couldn't see what a gem they had over at that network before they pulled the chute.
Constantine used more magic and had more action in that one episode of Arrow than he had in his entire series on NBC.
This morning I found this interesting tidbit:
http://comicbook.com/2015/11/05/constantine-takes-a-shot-at-nbc-on-arrow/
Do you think Constantine might hold a little grudge that NBC only gave him one season before canceling his show? On the “Haunted” episode of Arrow, Constantine took a little dig at his former network. One of the items that Constantine had Felicity bring him in preparation for attempting to restore Sara’s soul was a dead peacock feather. Felicity was confused over why Constantine would need a dead peacock feather. It turns out Constantine didn't need the feather for Sara at all. Constantine took the feather and simply used it to scratch an itch on his back. Nothing can be more satisfying than scratching an itch with a dead peacock feather.
Of course, NBC is known as the Peacock Network because of their Peacock logo, which they started using in 1956.
Isn't that Rocket's gag? Fetch x items for a plan plus one just for laughs.

I went and heard people complaining it was just a trade show. I found 5 stalls selling a good amount of comics, only two of which had a large wall of books. Others just had a maybe 10-12 long boxes max, and others less. The place was ok space wise until 11 when they let general entry in. I only really went for comic village, but there were some good vintage and figures stalls.
Anyone going to Brighton Film and Comic Con on the 7-8th November?
I am now! Just booked a family ticket. Should be a novel experience for the kids.

I don't remember Superman saving Zod in Superman II... or Non... or Ursa.
I always thought that was pretty brutal. The hand crush looked and sounded nasty, and then they... what? Fall to their deaths in a crevasse?
-
Article makes the mistake of comparing Superman to Marvel characters, saying things like "So what if Superman kills someone? Black Widow's killed people. So what if he does something reckless? Tony Stark has behaved recklessly...etc"
That makes no sense at all.
Whatever, MoS was several orders of magnitude superior to SR.

In desperation for more superhero material to watch, I recently embarked on season 1 of Arrow. I'm up to about episode 11. Someone tell me, does it get any better? It's almost literally torture right now it's so boring, but I know from experience that a show can learn from its mistakes and get better in subsequent seasons.
For the record, I did struggle through to season 2, and season 2 is a LOT more enjoyable. Still not Flash enjoyable, but at least not a total chore to watch like season 1. Speaking of Flash, fun to see his introduction in this.
3rd update that nobody should care about: Season 3 showed yet further improvement. I'm almost enjoying the show at this point (just starting season 4). I'll be very excited to see Constantine brought in as mystical consultant.

Any kind of spin-off would be.. blasphemous (and I know that sounds like fanboy whining, because it kinda is).
Why, just because Alan Moore is an elitist prig? Who cares WHAT he thinks--it's DC's property and his opinion no longer matters. I get where he's coming from, but he doesn't give a tenth of a mess about any relationship any of his fans have created with these characters at this point. Plenty of others do.
I respect Moore's ability, but not his arrogance. Yes, you can't translate all of the innovations to the comic medium he made in "Watchmen" to other media, and yes, any attempt to do so will be inferior to "Watchmen" because the odds that a Snyder or anyone else would similarly try to innovate the translated medium anywhere close to the extent to which he did is nil to zero. Who cares? Mostly Alan Moore and not many others. Do we really miss and return to re-experience his innovations to panel-based art that much? No--the vast majority of us re-experience Watchmen because of the story and the characters. You can still tell good stories with these characters, and while it won't be Alan Moore's Watchmen, it's still possible to do them well. He's not the only writer capable of penning an anti-superhero story.
Nothing to do with Alan Moore. Watchmen is a complete work with no loose ends. You can't spin off the characters because they aren't 'superheroes' that can go off on further adventures. Their arcs are complete.
You wouldn't spin off Hamlet would you? (Oh wait... I did like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead...)

First Look At CONSTANTINE In Season 4 Of ARROWMATT RYAN REPRISES HIS ROLE AS JOHN CONSTANTINE ON ARROW — When things take a turn for the worst with Sara (guest star Caity Lotz), Oliver (Stephen Amell) calls in a favor from an old friend who deals in the mystical, John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan). John Badham directed the episode written by Brian Ford Sullivan & Oscar Balderrama.
I heard but... I didn't really believe! This is actually going to happen then? Nice!
But can he PLEASE do up his tie just a little bit?

Finally saw the latest episode.
Alfred smacked young Catwoman, and called her 'treakle'.
Treacle tart, cockney rhyming slang for 'sweetheart'.
Mmm. treacle tart...

Ep3 was a good one. I'm glad Jerome is done. He was a one-dimensional character but, as Barbara (significantly) said, "he had a certain something..."
This show is a roller coaster of quality. Every time I enthuse about it it goes downhill, so I'll try to restrain myself this time. Good ep though.
-
However, I think that there is a good chance that it is NOT a straw man. In fact, I think it's probably not. I think that we'll see the Joker eventually, whomever it may be.
Still wouldn't surprise me to see Jerome come back, though.
I actually meant your logic/argument was a "straw man" - your explanation that either Jerome was the best fit or they'd already found someone better - those aren't the only options. C) they haven't yet or never plan to cast the actual joker
But I think we're on the same page either way (thumbs u
You wanted to say false dichotomy, rather than straw man

I think you are exaggerating a bit. It doesn't appeal that much to you, fair enough, but it's objectively better than you're making out :-)
Pay off at the end? Hadn't occurred to me. It's been paying out extravagantly and consistently from the start. Still it isn't groundbreaking or anything, just an enjoyable entertainment for those that like that sort of thing. I liken it to a blend of 12 Monkeys and Twin Peaks directed by Wes Anderson.
