    Hmmm.

Music Concerts aren't exactly cheap anymore.  Unless I'm watching a street musician I'm into the stratosphere for a concert.

Sporting Events,  Try a NY Knick,  Ranger or Yankee game to feel fleeced

Restaurants?  Man if you want some inflation try eating out.  Better yet head out to California for some $18 Big Macs.

Yes, but you have great memories with other people. That`s the real key no pun intended.

Most people and I  rather be with their family or friends and go to those venues and have great experiences and memories than have New Mutants #98 or other KEY comics slabbed.

So most people rather spend $2000 on great experiences than buy a slab that will sit in their closet.

As Bob Dylan once said the times are changing.  haha.

  2. The major factor is the Marvel movie hype is over. A great-looking movie coming out Deadpool and Wolverine, but yet both Incredible Hulk #181 and New Mutants #98 have dropped in price incredibly.  The Deadpool and Wolverine movie can`t even move the needle, and actually lower prices show people have moved on. Most people I know want to go to music concerts, sports events and great restaurants and experience good feelings with memories and not collect things.

So I got in another piece of original artwork by actor Peter Cushing yesterday.  This is an early (circa 1950s) collection of watercolour sketches Cushing did of people from different historical time periods.  As these sketches are small, instead of a full signature, Cushing monogrammed them PCW - his middle name was Wilton. As a history teacher,  these are a real treasure for me and a highlight in my Peter Cushing collection.

Wow! Outstanding stuff. I really like the art. As a artist myself being singing, drawing or directing this was class and good style.

    ON NEWSSTANDS JULY 1964

Strange Tales #125 - Lee, Ayers, Reinman, and Rosen

Can this team do better using just classic FF characters?

The story has some glaring holes (how is Ben breathing underwater??), but the ending surprise as to the why of it all is actually pretty good. Not a bad story here!

Ayers had a little thing going on here. Kirby and Ditko no , but he tried and I hope Stan appreciated him.

I don't have that issue, but I do have a copy of the Standard Catalog, which pulls data from those circ statements.

    stdGuide.thumb.jpeg.b98ad12311b7bf9b4895d86acf6cfdfd.jpeg

If I understand their methodology correctly, they apply the average Total Paid Circulation found in a particular comic to the previous year's issues.  So, I believe the way to interpret this is that the WFC #302 statement indicated the then-most-recent Total Paid Circulation was 88,928, and the editors of the Catalog then applied that number to the entries for WFC #287-298.

The comics were selling way better back then. There might have been a few variants but not like now we're getting at least 10.

    Same here on both points.

I remember admiring the Matchbox displays at local variety and hardware stores during my formative comic buying years but I was sixteen and in eleventh grade when Hot Wheels were introduced. Therefore it's the Matchboxes such as the ones in the numbered boxes I've pictured that I might eventually more actively collect:

My uncle was a big Match Box collector.

As the kids would say, "cringe."

I was looking through some Trina stuff last night and did think about the fashion/design aspect for a minute.  Her bio at the end of Swift Comics (a bantam paperback where the page I posted above comes from that gave Deich, Spiegelman, Trina, and Allan Shenker each a quarter of the comic) mentions her having a boutique:

The clothing design angle reminded me of California Girls in the 80s on Eclipse (which there was a thread about the other day because of, um, the Eclipse).  What a great label that was.  I think of it as an 80s take on Patsy Walker or the golden age teen comics with the dolls and designs that you could cut out.   Teen comics aren't really my thing, but I did think it was really cool how Trina included designs from readers and also encouraged young girls to draw and do their own comics.  I know this isn't very "underground" but it is very indy/DIY - not to mention very 80s :roflmao: Anyways, just very cool in getting young girls involved in art and design and making their own comics.

You can tell from all the different names in California Girls that she touched and engaged a lot of people with this approach.

Nice post. Love her art. I met her at a con in New England. She came off to me as a very kind woman.

All I will say about MYCOMICSHOP. Too me they are great graders. They are strict and when I send something in 95 percent of the time I get a bump.

  9. So no disrespect on any one here but stocks better long term or short. Plus every year inflation hits 2 percent every year, so basically like my friend says you need at least percent 5 percent which banks saving account gurantee, so weird most Americans know how to program their Smart TVs and remotes than Stock Market.

Buy the railroads. The demand for their service isn't going away even in your great grandkids' lifetimes. And they're not making any more of them (financially impossible these days) so they have a natural oligopoly verging on a monopoly. My two favourites because I like their rail networks are CP($88.09) and CNI($129.79).

    :)

Thanks for that good advice I will look into that. Luke.

Of course both are doing well until someone in the AI sector posts a lousy quarter or guidance.  And frankly the weight loss diabetes drug bonanza is one class action lawsuit away from disaster since we haven't seen long term effects of using diabetes medication for weight loss which is not what it is intended for.  And this is coming from someone who follows the tech sector and biotech sector very very closely.

Most comic book keys down 50 to 70 percent since 2021.  I will stay with my certain stocks. Deadpool 3 should be big there, but after that? We shall see.

"Guys, I'm now getting involved in this thread and here is a WILD new claim."

    "Source?"

"Screw you guys, this is exactly the sort of attitude that caused people to get hurt in the first place! I'm not getting involved!" *makes tiny baby sniffling noises, picks up ball, goes home. Continues to interact with the thread reacting to posts.

Nah, it's not worth it. Got a family and career. Why waste time? It's not productive to me. Peace out.

Let the lawsuits decide this. I realized not to get caught up on this. This will be my final post on the subject.

The sad thing is in a few months people on social media won't care and they will move on to their new things they upset about. It comes quick and go quick.

Not that I'm saying the comic market is safer but the stock market?  Lets see,  analyst opinions,  you own a great company in a lousy sector and the stock goes down,  market momentum,  interest rate influences,  depending on the sector you are in there are government influences that could enhance or crush your position,  you could be in a semiconductor company that doesn't serve the new "hot AI" sector.  The list goes on and on.

Everything requires work/research and learning.  Same with the comic market,  same with the stock market.  It is all a grind,  nothing comes easy

I only really focus on two markets AI and weight loss diabetic drugs. So far so good.

You didn't want to get caught up in this, but just dropped serious allegations that nobody else is talking about and expect everyone to believe you. Gotcha.

Ok. This is why I am not getting involved. Not productive to me. People were hurt. He is not coming back. A issing contest will not solve the problem. Good luck man.

The "movie thing" is not over. Plenty of books popping on a daily and weekly basis due to TV and movie news. See X-Men 97, James Gunn DC castings, Shalla-Bal Siver Surfer etc.

What's over is the COVID bubble. You can't just throw a dart at any spec book and expect to make money. You have to actually put in the work and make smart choices.

I can see your point of view but I feel safer buying stocks.
