As I said, one of my favorite lesser known issues of the series is this one (#5), and one of the reasons is Kirby addressing the sexism of Stan Lee's dialoguing... Barda is one of my favorite Fourth World characters and Kirby, rather than preaching, brings a sense of humor to showing her power.

That`s Jack Kirby`s answer to the critics who said he couldn`t draw beautiful women.

Mister Miracle #6 - Supervising, Theorizing, and Pencillizing by Jack Kirby

Kirby really let's loose on feelings about Stan (AND Houseroy) in one of the funniest (for me) stories of the entire Furth World. Big Barda, like Roz, saw right through Funky and has an immediate dislike of him! Jack even plays around with the credit box...

I wonder if Stan Lee or Roy Thomas ever said anything publicly about Jack Kirby`s parody of them? hm

It's incredible how much story and action Jack packed into this issue.

I also noticed Kirby drew just about every key Marvel comic book cover during those early Marvel years. It`s been amazing to learn how much Jack Kirby contributed to the formation of Marvel. Yes, I use to be one of those Stan Lee Presents guys. This thread definitely has changed my perspective on Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko`s importance in the creation of Marvel.

Matthew Vaughn got it right with that quote above about CGI VFX effects with me, as in the last few years it seems as if I was paying to watch video games on the screen.

Frankly, I rather actually play video games than watch them on the screen, so yeah that`s a good quote by Matthew Vaughn the director of The Kingsman.

remember the first time I saw a Motley Crue video back in 1983. I was smitten and loved the band for decades after.

When they announced their "retirement" with signed papers, I just KNEW it was BS and that they were coming back.

Kind of reminds me of KISS. I can't count the number of times Gene Simmons says it`s their final tour.

    lol haha

Even the majors began a mass distribution program aping what we remember from our youth (Comics in racks at 7-11s, Drug Stores etc) and published at a low price point on cheap paper etc I doubt they could bring back mass consumption of floppies.

Agreed, as a lot of people don`t even go to the stores anymore because they have their food or other products delivered to them by Walmart Plus, Door Dash, and Amazon Prime. Sadly, not many people are going to 7-11s anymore. The world is vastly different from when I bought comic books at the corner drugstore.

yea, this thread was a dud zzz

In the 1970s and 1980s the Looney Tunes characters became more popular do to countless reruns in circulation, but Disney characters took back becoming more popular with the Disney Parks, Disney Channel, and now Disney Plus.

Seems like Warner Bros hasn`t done much with the IP. I certainly love these characters.

  8. Spider-Man`s the King. lol. Crazy how popular he still is after all these years.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold more than 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, making it PlayStation Studios’ fastest-selling game ever.

That stat includes pre-order sales of individual units, as well as units bundled with PlayStation 5.

Feels like some of the Silver Massive keys like Amazing Fantasy 15, Hulk 1, and Fantastic Four 1 have bottomed out and may be creeping up again.

One thing though with Silver Age keys is what like only 20 or maybe less? I don't know if that correlates with "A rising tide lifts all boats".

The one comic book I am following is X-Men #1 CGC 4.0 as it was going for $4000 pre-pandemic, now it`s like FMV $14,000. It will be interesting to see if it can hold that price with the X-Men movie at least 3-5 years away.

I'm no market expert but it looks like maybe we are reaching the "capitulation" phase?

People who were holding out in hopes of a market turnaround are now giving up and dumping out of fear of losing everything.

I wonder if the Marvel Cinematic Universe being so lackluster the last few years is having an effect? MCU drove most of the comic book speculation in the last decade. MCU seems to have gone from must-see to meh.

The latest news that the two most anticipated Marvel projects for 2024 the Daredevil TV show and Deadpool 3 are both being pushed to 2025 due to the Actor`s strike is certainly not good news.
