ON NEWSSTANDS NOVEMBER 1971
Mister Miracle #6 - Supervising, Theorizing, and Pencillizing by Jack Kirby
Nuts, Bolts, Rivets and Brush by Mike Royer
Cover by Jack Kirby (inks by Mike Royer)
Kirby really let's loose on feelings about Stan (AND Houseroy) in one of the funniest (for me) stories of the entire Furth World. Big Barda, like Roz, saw right through Funky and has an immediate dislike of him! Jack even plays around with the credit box...
Part ONE:
I wonder if Stan Lee or Roy Thomas ever said anything publicly about Jack Kirby`s parody of them?

It's incredible how much story and action Jack packed into this issue.
I also noticed Kirby drew just about every key Marvel comic book cover during those early Marvel years. It`s been amazing to learn how much Jack Kirby contributed to the formation of Marvel. Yes, I use to be one of those Stan Lee Presents guys. This thread definitely has changed my perspective on Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko`s importance in the creation of Marvel.

Matthew Vaughn got it right with that quote above about CGI VFX effects with me, as in the last few years it seems as if I was paying to watch video games on the screen.
Frankly, I rather actually play video games than watch them on the screen, so yeah that`s a good quote by Matthew Vaughn the director of The Kingsman.

remember the first time I saw a Motley Crue video back in 1983. I was smitten and loved the band for decades after.
When they announced their "retirement" with signed papers, I just KNEW it was BS and that they were coming back.
Kind of reminds me of KISS. I can't count the number of times Gene Simmons says it`s their final tour.

Even the majors began a mass distribution program aping what we remember from our youth (Comics in racks at 7-11s, Drug Stores etc) and published at a low price point on cheap paper etc I doubt they could bring back mass consumption of floppies.
Agreed, as a lot of people don`t even go to the stores anymore because they have their food or other products delivered to them by Walmart Plus, Door Dash, and Amazon Prime. Sadly, not many people are going to 7-11s anymore. The world is vastly different from when I bought comic books at the corner drugstore.

have never seen his tv show. liked him as bad guy in equalizer 2 and as that cool character in the second kingsman.
He is one of the best modern actors right now.
Try this show out when you have a chance. It`s event TV to me like the Marvel movies once were.

yea, this thread was a dud
In the 1970s and 1980s the Looney Tunes characters became more popular do to countless reruns in circulation, but Disney characters took back becoming more popular with the Disney Parks, Disney Channel, and now Disney Plus.
Seems like Warner Bros hasn`t done much with the IP. I certainly love these characters.

everyone is so young..
I found it interesting that in watching and hearing a young Todd McFarlane back then in this video we could tell he had a vision and a business plan. Way ahead of most of his peers back then thinking of the future. He also seems to be the ambassador of comic books now that Stan Lee passed.

Carl Barks, Jack Kirby, and a young Todd McFarlane. Thanks, I am going to watch it now.

Also on Page 2, Lee finds a way to put himself in the same category as William Saroyan (regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century), despite the fact that Lee doesn't actually WRITE any of the stories... (from the response to the last letter)
Stan Lee was never the shy one. haha.

They say that`s a secret for older men to look younger. Wear shades and some facial hair. I wonder if maybe Stan should have just gone with Yul Brynner look and lost the toupee? haha.

So wouldn`t Spider-Man be the canary in the coal mine? If his comic book keys are doing well, then the overall market might be bullish, or vice versa if his comic keys are slow then the market might be bearish.
Any thoughts on Spider-Man correlating with the rest of the comic book market, especially Silver Age and up markets?

Amazing Interview with Steve Ditko's younger brother and nephew...
Pat Ditko (Steve's brother): When I first read Spider-man, and I saw Peter Parker, I told everybody, THAT's Steve Ditko.
Just watched this and it`s an outstanding interview!

Spider-Man`s the King. lol. Crazy how popular he still is after all these years.

Looks like Spider-Man comics is a big mover in the market.
I was looking at GOCOLLECT`s top 50 Silver Age and Spidey`s got 20 of the top 50 Silver Age comics.
In their overall extended list with all ages, Spidey`s got 13 out of the top 25.
Spider-Man is more popular than I thought.

Feels like some of the Silver Massive keys like Amazing Fantasy 15, Hulk 1, and Fantastic Four 1 have bottomed out and may be creeping up again.
One thing though with Silver Age keys is what like only 20 or maybe less? I don't know if that correlates with "A rising tide lifts all boats".
The one comic book I am following is X-Men #1 CGC 4.0 as it was going for $4000 pre-pandemic, now it`s like FMV $14,000. It will be interesting to see if it can hold that price with the X-Men movie at least 3-5 years away.

I'm no market expert but it looks like maybe we are reaching the "capitulation" phase?
People who were holding out in hopes of a market turnaround are now giving up and dumping out of fear of losing everything.
I wonder if the Marvel Cinematic Universe being so lackluster the last few years is having an effect? MCU drove most of the comic book speculation in the last decade. MCU seems to have gone from must-see to meh.
The latest news that the two most anticipated Marvel projects for 2024 the Daredevil TV show and Deadpool 3 are both being pushed to 2025 due to the Actor`s strike is certainly not good news.
