  1. May created Rudolph in 1939. Art was by Denver Gillen. My copy has a picture of the Tri-motored plane which means it is a first edition. Rudolph was created as a sales promotion for Montgomery Ward. May's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, adapted the story into a song and Gene Autry's recording of the song hit No. 1 on the Billboard pop singles chart the week of Christmas 1949. He really didn't become part of the Santa Claus legend until the song became a hit.
  2. Comic Cavalcade had some of my favorite Christmas covers.
  3. I think the original has a three-engine plane in the story and the reprint has an airplane with four engines.
  4. I don't think this is my picture but I do have the original May version of Rudolph. Thanks Montgomery Wards!
  5. fan-freaking-tastic group of comics I like the stories too.
  6. Keifer doesn't get a lot of credit but he did a ton of work for Classics and Fiction House.
  7. Not just Weird, it's a total fantasy cover.
  8. I think this is the inside cover of a Fox Giant but it was one of Wertham's favorite bad examples.
  9. This BB is cheering for Michigan State. Even Batman is cheering for the Spartans. I'll save this one in case they lose (how we felt after the Nebraska game).
  10. Black Hood is a little easier to find than Pep or Hangman and the early issues had Hangman stories.
  11. Smash has been easier to obtain. Only one fake cover here and the interior art is always terrific.
  12. Pep comics are difficult to obtain because of the crazy Archie fans and I like Zip comics too. Several of these have covers by Tom.
  13. I should mention that I read Christmas Parade 8 and 9 when I was young but didn't see Christmas Parade 1 and 2 until they appeared as reprints in the sixties, 10 years later. The above painting by Barks describes what trying to buy Disney Comics was like back in the eighties.
  14. fan-freaking-tastic group of comics Oh yeah! Thats right up my alley! Love it! Thanks for the comments guys. Oh, I forgot, the Blue Ribbon 1 is just an original cover with a Funny Animals interior. Someone gave it to me but I have forgotten who it was.
  15. Detective comics are still top dog in my collection. I added a few covers to the coverless copies in that box too. Two copies are complete copies (real covers) from my duplicate box. Detective 84 is a duplicate with an old cover that I made with a cheap HP printer. It looks washed out compared to the bright colors on Tom's covers...and they fit better too.
  16. I added a few more covers to my Blue Ribbon group. Thanks Tom for making such nice covers. About half of these aren't real but the interior is the correct Blue Ribbon comic. Thanks to Howard Keltner for getting me interested in MLJ fifty years ago.
  17. Brigham Young makes the cover of Real Life but not Darwin? It seems so unfair. I think he was eaten by Subby's dragon.
  18. BB,i love the interiors that you post!have you seen my requests to come over and read comics? Seriously,Bill,Marty,BB,all of you,you make this place "golden"! Local guys like Todd, Larry and Jack are welcome to come over and visit...but no dealers please. And I only have a scan of that comic, HT 19, no book.
