  1. Am I missing something

Yes, you missed the post in this very thread where George said he was going to start including ComicLink auctions in GPA starting with the last one that completed.

so can i now offer my ASM #24 9.4 for $5k as below last GPA even tho there's one sitting on clink for $2700? some of the clink auction prices were so outlandish i'm not sure if this is more harm than good. avengers #9 cgc 9.2 anyone?

Holy ...I just saw this book for sale on CL !!! Did I miss the memo when Wonderman overtook Cap in popularity? Since when is an Avengers #9, worth considerably more than Avengers #4?

    Jim

well, $7500 is just an asking price. lunacy comes out of the woodwork after the most recent auction "sale" at $5600

  3. Are we going to see any of the Flashes from the CL auction being posted by you?

    Some unbelievable prices.

it's quite remarkable at how the multiples change starting in the low 140's. 9.2's for 10x guide in the 110's become 9.6's for 3x guide in the 140's. that's a bit of an exaggeration but not much.

  4. Forrest had a great idea in General with the top 5 Batman stories thread. Let's take a crack at our favorite...

    Top 5 Spidey stories!

Here are my picks, in chronological order:

    1. Amazing Spiderman #10 -- Big Man and the Enforcers. It's difficult to choose between the classics of the first two years, but this is a great early issue driven by the mystery of the Big Man's identity and a definite standout for me. Tightly and beautifully plotted.

    2. Amazing Spiderman #17-19 -- A gem of a storyline in which Spidey's personal problems threaten to overwhelm his career, until he finally comes out swinging (and Aunt May gives him a verbal smackdown!). Contains the classic #18, one of my favorite single issues, where Spidey doesn't appear in costume until the last panel. Definitely a storyline that brings out Spidey's uniqueness -- it couldn't have been told with any other superhero character.

    3. Amazing Spiderman #30-33 -- Not much to say here. #33 will always be an all-time classic. Ditko at his absolute peak.

    4. Amazing Spiderman #121-122 -- Absolutely shocking bronze age storyline -- a "Turning Point" indeed. Still packs a real punch.

    5. Kraven's Last Hunt 6-parter -- the definitive "dark Spidey" copper age storyline... a tone rarely brought out in ASM stories. Beautifully written and drawn.

Let's hear your picks, guys! (thumbs u

    2. ASM 121-122, I can only imagine what it would have been like to buy 121 off the newstands. Why couldn't they have killed someone else? :(

#121-122: as someone who bought these off the newstand, this is the pinnacle. i can vividly recall the moment my friend peeked and blurted out the ending.

  5. Has anyone taken a look at C-Link's August auction. A lot of Flash action again. Are the prices just drawing books out or is it normal for this many high grade books to appear?

    Since August we have had:

    Rubin's

    Marlowe's

    Fantastic Frank's

David Toth's and a whole slew of others.

I feel a lot of pressure to buy now because I am not sure if the quality books will be there in a year or two. I missed out on a couple in the last round of auctions and I was a little ticked off.

  6. Anyone win a JLA or 2?

I went 0 for 16...there were no bargain prices so far in the Heritage Auction (at least for me)...really wanted the JLA #6...but went too high for me

the #2 was eminently winnable- i paid more for my 9.2 and this one was nicer. i won bupkiss- thought for sure the third time around for the #4 i'd be the high bid but underbidder for third time in a row. i won't even remotely hang w/ what people are willing to shell out for 9.4's.

  7. reading with comprehension AND retention was always a failing of mines. oh, and spelling too. sue me! Shouldnt Heritage still note that the better copies now exist in CGC slabs so that their buyers might not find out later and be a bit upset? Or does "buyer beware/do your own homework" suffice?

at the time the catalogue was printed, they were the highest or tied for highest graded copies. i don't feel they have an obligation to update the descriptions. maybe an attorney in the crowd has an opinion.

  8. I picked up this guy in the C-Link Auction this week.

    flash127.jpg

Great pick-up! It used to be a 9.4 with C-OW pages (old label) until the top right corner got caught in the slab`s inner seal and got torn off, which CGC regraded as a 9.0 when it was resubbed to them. It is an absolutely gorgeous book except for that missing corner. Whoever bought it on Heritage and then resold it here took an absolute bath.

high grade silver age DC crashing!!! did this book really sell for $3k in 06? i believe there was some chatter that the bidders must've thought it was a 9.4. nice pickup jackcsco.

  9. With these big finds coming out, does it scare you away from bidding on these top census books. There is a 9.4 Flash 123 in Heritage and this JLA find makes me nervous to even bid on them.

    Yes and no.

Prior to these big finds, if there was a book I really wanted which was the "highest census book" (ie: JLA #6 CGC 9.4)....I could see myself bidding very very aggressively to win it at all cost (thinking this is my only shot at having this book because there will never be another 9.4 or better book). But, now I'm not too sure about that. This may be the ONLY 9.4 or better copy or there could be a few more (possibly surfacing in the next 5-10 years as collections are being sold for various reasons).

i think tim needs this book so you don't have to worry

  10. actual question was..how is it posible that cgc charges for walkthru 2.5%..and if i overgrade..miss resto...still get charged the full 2.5%....yet if i unger grade, and go thru express..i get bumped UP FOR MORE MONEY!!...and why isnt my image sent the same day as its GRADED WITH WALK THRU???....I WAS TOLD...more coins imaged...the books are a HASLE!!!..EXACT WORDS!

it's called a monopoly. don't like it- send your books to pgx and have them Juststopit.DoyouWANTastrike? up the grading and miss the resto.

  11. The 9.4 is worth much more than 30K.

how much more? last one sold for $29.9k. of course, that was a former 9.2. where's tim to correct me if i'm forgetting a few but i can think of two verified sales of silver age DC for north of $30k- the b&b #28 9.4 for $60k and a showcase #4 9.2 for $62k.

Last 9.4 sold for $29900 3 years ago and that had questions around it.

Last 9.2 sold for $27600 4 years ago.

Going on a limb I'm thinking the 9.4 is worth much more than $30,000 at this point.

i believe the 9.2 that sold 4 years ago and the 9.4 that sold 3 years ago were the same book in different slabs. it will be interesting but these ain't no marvels- again, it only takes two to tango (or as some have suggested, when it's a heritage auction it only takes one). the speculation is fascinating but the proof will be when the hammer comes down. i'll be watching

  12. 'tis. & thanx (for not bumping it up more). Surprised I got it so cheap.

Have you noticed the new additions to the updated census for JLA, Tim?

    #4 - 9.4 :o

    #6 - 9.4 doh!

    #7 - 9.0 hm

    #9 - 9.6 (worship)

    #10- 9.4 :luhv:

    #11- 9.6 :pullhair:

Who the hockey-puck just came into town??!!

This has got to be from one owner. These Top Dogs coming from different collections would be just way too much of a coincidence...

    Rick

are these different than toth's books?

  13.

paging tim- is this the copy that used to be a 9.2?

The e-mail I got from Heritage states that this is from an original owner collection...David Toth.....there is a new CGC 9.4 on the census so this

    must be it...

    Also on auction in May....

    JLA #4 CGC 9.2

    JLA #5 CGC 9.2

    JLA #8 CGC 9.4

    JLA #21 CGC 9.0

    JLA #22 CGC 9.2

    :o

    thanks

You getting ready to be the underbidder again? :baiting:

    someone's gotta do it.
