  1. Thanks. Not only that, but the book is somewhat loose and can move around. Finally, the slab has a small crack in it. Anyway, it is what it is. I'll stick to buying already graded comics.
  2. Definitely not the same book. You got rooked. I have no doubt (and no evidence) that CGC employees swap books. Absolutely no way to prove when it happens. It's just one reason why I only buy graded copies. I wouldn't be comfortable sending in a book worth thousands to a company with no way to track it. CGC has integrity problems. Acetategate is case in point.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. There is no color rub on the cover, especially near spider-man's head. I have this same book in a 9.8 and this copy looks better. Either way, I'll stick to buying already graded books. Unfortunately, I do not believe CGC to be impartial graders. They know the values of grades they assign and adjust grades accordingly. This book is flawless. Even if it had a color rub, which it doesn't, still should be 9.8.
  4. I basically only collect graded comics. Not worth the hassle to have them graded and it's just a spoon shoot. However, I did submit my one and only comic last year to give it a shot. Thought it was a great candidate for a 9.8. It came back a 9.6. Very disappointed. I know everyone thinks their book is a 9.8, but this one looks better than many 9.8s I have no idea what's wrong with this book. Anyway, that's the last time I submit raw books. Gave it a shot, didn't work. Figure they save their 9.8s for their major submitters.
  5. Yes. It's CBCS slab. I have no intentions on regrading it. Thought I'd get the CGC community feedback on it.
  6. Picked up Legend of Zelda for a good price. Book is graded 9.8. However, it does have a small bindery tear in the bottom left corner. Otherwise the book is flawless. I noticed alot of Valiant comics from the early 90s have a tear in either the upper or lower corners. Some better. Some worse. Some none at all. My understanding is that this is acceptable in a 9.8 as it's a production issue. It's also less then 1/6in. I don't believe this to be a result of some sort of damage either. Clearly a small tear. Let me know your thoughts.
  7. I do not believe that picture is a true picture of the comic. It was graded on 2/28/20 and it would NOT have been a 9.8 if it looked like that. So if it really were sun damage, it would've happened in less than 2yrs. IF it were UV, the title and label would be more faded, especially the black "9.8". The 9.8 looks fresh and untouched. My opinion is it's an edited picture of the book. Not sure why someone would edit, but not sure why most people do what they do now a days.
  8. Nice pickup! I personally am not fond of having any signatures on comics. Not something i'm interested in. Like my books clean.
  9. very nice! what's the grade of your other 181?
  10. Here are pics of the only bends I could find. Absolutely not visible unless you look at the right angle using decent lighting. First one is under the 9. Second one is just above Wolverine's shoulder.
  11. Bought the CGC grader notes for my newly purchased 9.0. Boy was that a let down. All it says is "light spine stress lines to cover" and "very light bends to cover". Not very elaborate for $5. Anyway, the stress lines are present, but don't see the very light bends to cover. I checked a 9.8 today and honestly it doesn't really look better at all then my 9.0. Also my Wolverine #1 is damn near flawless and it graded an 8.0 couple years ago. I doubt they give 9.5+ grades to little people like me. Only to those large dealers that submit thousands of comics.
  12. Who would've known this book would be as valuable as it is? Great pickup for $1450. I should've bought mine several years ago too like I wanted. The question is, which one of today's books will be the next key? Impossible to predict.
  13. Thanks all! I received the 181 today and it really is a beauty. Was holding my breath, concerned there'd be some blemish, but it's in fantastic shape. Only small, very minor creases at the spine. I bought it from a private seller. My dad was at the B-Ball card convention in Chicago and I told him to keep an eye out for a 181 by chance. There was only 1 or 2 dealers selling comics. The guy didn't have the 181 at the show, but said it was back at his shop in NJ. Had a 9.0, 7.5, and 4.5 for sale. In the end I brokered the deal through my dad for the 9.0 for $9500. It's a high grade, white pages, and didn't have to pay a premium all are what I was looking for.
  14. Received my 181 today. Couldn't be happier. It's a really nice 9.0. Luckily my wife was ok with me getting this comic.
  15. Hello All. This is my first post. My Hulk 181 is scheduled to arrive Monday! Not much of a collector, have just a hand full of comics. Only other graded comic is Wolverine #1. This comic has been on my radar for at least 15yrs though. Can't wait. It's a 9.0 with white pages. I didn't receive it yet, but this is the picture the seller originally sent me. He was asking $10,000 for it. I offered $8,500 but we settled for $9,500. I don't plan on ever selling it honestly. I'll pass it down to my son eventually who's 1.5yrs old now! Thoughts?
