  1. I like this cover a lot. I noticed you had a lot of posts in bronze horror. Did you start out collecting bronze horror, and then recently move to silvers? I've just about completed most of the bronze horror stuff, but the silver looks absolutely daunting. And those HOM, HOS series just aren't truly complete until they're completely filled
  2. Posted this in my silver crossover thread (I know it's not silver ). Thought my fellow bronze horror fans might get a kick out of it.
  3. I love the early MGAs too! One of my favorites is here.
  4. For some reason this reminds me a little bit of dark tower. Don't know if there are any King fans here. Kind of like the dixie pig minions (which, in turn, reminds me of rosemary's baby, but I digress).
  5. I really like the bizarro cover. Very Nice.
  6. Eye candy Beautiful... You people are going to get me hooked on war
  7. I'm primarily a horror fan. Although, I picked up a few prize battle tale reader copies to read. Man, let me just say, I'm impressed! Some of the stories, like, "The D.I. and the sand fleas" are feature film worthy. I'll probably start getting more hooked on War/Sgt. Rock tales in the future. Are the bronze war stories this good?
  8. Nice covers. I also noticed a lois lane 103 on the double covers thread that seems like a good candidate Anyways, regarding Sparling. I wasn't just referring to that specific issue and interior, I was just referring to sparling's work in general. Covers = outstanding. Interior drawing = not so outstanding. Just my .
  9. sitting in the grading section, if anyone wants to take a crack.
  10. Indeed, nice books! Andy I've never seen the adams cover. Gorgeous.
  11. Thanks, It's #3 from the st. john's publishing group. Third comic appearance I think.
  12. Speaking of house of secrets... Here's one of my favorite covers. I've always felt that Jack Sparling had some of the greatest bronze horror covers, especially the painted ones. I would put his cover artwork up there with dominguez and cardy's best (painted covers on par with wrightson and adams). Yet, I felt that his interior artwork was much lower in caliber and reminded me of typical average 60s dc artwork. Are there other artists that had such a disparity between cover art work and interior? Or am I the only one that feels this way about sparling's work?
  13. I always liked hos 81 as opposed to hom 174(reprints) and 175(1st cain), since it actually had some backstory on cain and abel in an entire short story. Does anyone feel like the reprints cheapens the value and scarcity of their collections? It seems to me that once you read the black and whites, you lose the urge to see what's under the cover.
  14. Used bookstore pickup. Had a lot of beat up 10 centers, like whiz 9 (some pages missing though).
  15. Cool cover! Second that. Wish I could find more of these undervalued beauties.
  16. Great titles, thanks. Still a few I need to pick up. I really like the adventure (supergirl) cover as well. Yes, one of these days I may give in to slabbing. Is it not normal to be paranoid scanning the raws? I always get worried putting back HGs into the bags/mylars. It seems like I do more damage when I'm concerned about creating creases, then I do throwing a low grade modern back into a bag. I already see dust specks on the 175. Sheesh. Is there a thread on posters who worry about handling raws?
  17. Thanks for the welcomes. Sterling, I look forward to seeing some other horror/hero crossovers. Here's a few more of my favorites, although, I'm feeling like there's not much more to post since It's already been done here. Let me know if I'm over-posting. Thanks.
  18. Although it's not a true horror comic, this superman cover seems to belong here. Doorway entry reminds me a lot of Cain's abode=) There were a lot of these "horror" theme covers scattered amongst different titles around this time-frame. Notice the "dare you" invitation?
  19. Hi all, I'm a long time lurker and can't recall how many times I've feasted on the infinite bronze horror buffet. I recently asked aweforone to post my adams/dracula mockup (which he was kind enough to do). But now, I've finally thrown in the towel and taken the Kierkegaard leap of faith -- I'm a member! And I'll be adding some of my own faves to the menu. Hopefully, I'm not adding too much redundancy here (and I can't say I'm quite in the ultra high grade realm like sterling and others), but here's one of my favorite dc covers: Which often reminds me of marvel's bronze cover for crypt of shadows 8. But, before you question whether sparling was first with the idea, take a look back at the original cover from uncanny tales 23. It's practically identical, inside and outside!
