  1. Compare the label to a slab in hand. How can I when the CGC logo on the label for the slabbed copy on the right is just so blinding that I can't even read if it's been graded by CGC or by dare we say, PGX.
  2. Definitely in agreement with you here as I don't normally even bother to take a look at CL's auction offerings anymore because I don't care for their auction format (amongst other things) at all. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to, but I think some of the features on their new site is now far superior to what they use to have, especially in terms of their now virtualluy real-time up-to-date auction archives.
  3. Umm...................not referring to Mitch Mehdy in this post here, but @MasterChief himself as his real name is indeed Mitch.
  4. Hey Mitch; It would appear that even Batman doesn't have the detective skills which you are able to amass in terms of digging up the original scan for this book. The only question which I have is that for the life of me, I simply can't figure out which one of these scans here would be more truly reflective of the book's real colors?
  5. If this is the case and what actually took place, then it's all really on the buyer for not conducting their own due diligence because if they did, they would have found out that more than anything else, the only thing consistent with CGC's PQ designation is their absolute inconsistency.
  6. Not sure about mega keys, but we all know full well about the Church copy of Boy Comics 17 that went from CGC 4.0 all the way up to CGC 9.0 after stopping for a break at the CGC 7.5 rest area. I've also heard of GA books going from CGC 6.5 up to CGC 9.0 after steam rolling out a subscription crease. In the deep end of the condition pool and from the HA archives, I guess it would have to be a CGC 9.0 graded copy going up to a CGC 9.8 copy after taking a break in the CGC 9.6 penthouse.
  7. I guess that's probably because it was indeed orignally graded as being only a CGC 8.5 copy on the first go round, as according to Sean in his previous post several pages back:
  8. Well, if it's completely virgin in terms of being untouched and unread, why wouldn't it be a Gem Mint CGC 10.0 copy then?
  9. Yeah, certainly noticed that. In fact, it seems GA in general has just gone crazy. Then again, so have most of the ages when it comes to quality books. Let's not forget about classic cover like Mask 1 and Mask 2 by L.B. Cole. The major difference with GA as opposed to the other ages is that prices have gone crazy for the in demand books in all grades across the entire condition spectrum right down to the entry level copies.
  10. given his recently discussed "attributes", he should have been facing the other way ... Why, dear Sir...........................would you be referring to Robin, the Butt Wonder with your comment here: I guess Batman's nightly workout sure kept it in fine form.
  11. Wasn't white pants and Sean's hair style with the long flow all the rage back then in the 80's and early 90's though?
  12. Interesting to note that there were 2 reasonably nice copies of Police Comics 1 that sold for pretty strong prices in the just completed Heritage Auction: Found it a bit surprising though that although the CGC 5.0 graded copy sold for $8,400 on Saturday, the decidedly higher graded 6.5 copy sold for only $600 more at $9,000 a couple days earlier during the Thursday main portion of the auction.
  13. Or is it possible that nothing at all was done to the book and this upgrade was simply a straight resub after an extended period of time combined with slightly different grading standards in place at the time of grading? Especially since grading is still really more of a subjective opinion at a particular point in time, as opposed to an exact science and a difference of 2 or 3 grade increments is considered to be within their acceptable range of grading variance. After all, you never know and it made me think of another book which I now remember: Is this particular File Copy of Crackajack Funnies 9 here every bit a VF/NM 9.0 quality book or should it really be deserving of something much better (hint, hint.....say something between a 9.6 and a 9.9 ) than a mere CGC 9.0 graded copy?
  14. No. When I was offered this book several years ago, I showed it to someone that “confirmed” it would likely be a Cgc 1.8/2.0 due to spine split. Of course what would happen today , who knows Yes, if it was several years ago, it's really hard to say as their undisclosed grading standards can certainly change over time. Especially when you have significant changes in their grading teams and also as certain defects moves up the chart on their Hit Parade over time while other defects might move down the chart.
  15. Well, in this case, if it only started out as a CGC 9.0 graded copy, who's to say that this is not only a temporary rest area on its journey to its final stop for this gravy train run. What's to stop it from being squished squashed to line up even more nicely to CGC's undisclosed grading standards and come back out on the other side as either a CGC 9.6 or possibly even as a CGC 9.8 graded copy before the gravy train comes to a full stop.
  16. What.....are you saying this is one of those very obvious Dupchak machete-like hack and chop jobs as opposed to those near impossible to tell Ewert micro-trim jobs?
  17. I’m sure the fact it was CBCS had more to do with that. Ive seen CBCS big books sell for considerably less than their CGC counterparts time and again. Actually, wouldn't this be a straight resub for a CGC label and a fast flip to make some real easy big time money for any purchaser of this book then?
  18. So, if I am following your grading timeline properly, the Census Population Report for Bat 1 would really be just the 2 CGC 9.0 graded copies at the top of the census then as there is no real CGC 9.4 or CGC 9.2 originally graded copies?
  19. You mean similar to that big con job that Darren and Matt put together on that CGC 9.0 graded copy of Action Comics 1 and the classic story about the cedar chest, but then left out a huge gap where the book magically manifested into a higher graded copy? Any bets that if they dream up a story on this so-called now highest overgraded copy of Bat 1, they would also not bother to go into the details about how it was magically tramsformed from a CGC 9.0 graded copy into a CGC 9.4 graded copy.
  20. Not sure if the graders had their blinders on or were simply wearing their Covid-19 masks way too high, but this amount of butt ugly flaking or edge chipping alone should have taken the book right out of 9.4 contention. Although it might look like a beauty from a distance, it is seriously overgraded if you take a closer look at it.
  21. And as it should since submittors are paying additional money into the CCG coffers and CGC would certainly not want to discourage their customers from giving them more money. Don't you know that you are supposed to only look at that big number on the top left corner of the slab and nothing else below that?
  22. And then there was NONE if you wait a bit longer. Just maybe, you are looking at the future CGC highest graded 9.6 copy here or is it a CGC 9.8 graded copy. After all, haven't we seen in the past certain CGC 9.0 graded books turn into CGC 9.8 graded copies by the time it's all said and done.
  23. Also probably better in terms of looks as it's hard to beat that figure:
  24. As my kids would say nowadays, it's amazing the hair that guys used to have back in the day when you compared it to today's short short style. They were watching a video last weekend with Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees and couldn't believe the "flow" that he had as the only ones that seem to have that look nowadays are the hockey players who want their hair to flow out from under their helmets.
  25. When i talked to Dave last early 1980's he just got a Tec 27 same week as i got mine but said it was not the church. He never told me he had a copy of Batman 1 all the times we talked and he was buying stuff at the time and i had 3 copy's at the time to sell. Does he have the church Bat 1. Did you just double checked this with Dave hinself? I remember being down at the Diamond Int'l Galleries big grand opening back on Super Day of '95 and if I remember correctly, he told me that he was the buyer of Overstreet's copy of Batman 1. That copy there was listed as a VF/NM copy and priced and sold for something like $60K at the time. With Dave, I guess it's always possible that he might have more than one copy of Bat 1, or more likely, he probably upgraded to the Church copy when it came available.
