  1. Seeing as how there's no Allentown or Denver books in this particular CC auction for me to follow, I've decided to circled back to this one and only Chicago book in the auction: Although it has finally managed to clawed its way out from the single digit price range , it looks like it is still a long ways away from where a non-pedigree equivalent CGC 8.0 graded copy managed to fetch in a Heritage auction the other year. It will be interesting to see if there is much action on this particular Chicago book during the extended 3-minute bidding time periods. Especially considering it appears that a larger than normal number of books, including some high profile ones are receiving only limited, if any in fact, extended bids in this go round of the CC auctions this time. Not sure, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the higher than normal extended runs of both quality GA and early SA books that are present in this particular Event auction?
  2. Well, looks like most of the boardies here were pretty well dead on as this CGC 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 38 finished up at $31,001: Gee, all of these extra $1 bills being thrown around makes me wonder if it was the same bidder who won the Church CGC 9.9 graded copy of Cap marvel Jr #29 with almost the exact same winning bid of $30,001? Or just a smart bidding strategy on the bidder's part to go just $1 over and above?
  3. You are most welcome!!! With so many long term boardies either stepping back from the hobby or leaving the boards for greener pastures elsewhere, it's always imperative to have new blood coming on board to join the party here. Especially when it comes to long time knowledgeable collectors like you who are still so passionate about the hobby after all of these long years.
  4. Well, that took no time at all as the CC copy up above didn't even pick up a single bid during the extended auction time period. In this particular case, unlike the Mask 1 which is absolutely going gangbusters on CC as compared to the CL copy the previous week, it looks like this early bird copy for the Exciting Comics on CL clearly came out ahead by a wide margin:
  5. Hey Clark; Congrats on your extended bidding auction results as I guess it must have ran on for awhile in order to get a doubling in price. I guess it must be party time for the in order to celebrate your big millennium anniversary.
  6. Hey, maybe that's the main reason why these CGC boards are so quiet nowadays, as compared to say 10 years ago. There's just so many other comic book related message boards out there for collectors to spend their time on nowadays, especially with all of these various social media related platforms sprouting up all over the place.
  7. I bet you wouldn't say the same thing if you was the consignor of the particular lot in question. It'll be more like "keep it coming, not a problem at all".
  8. Would you happening to be referring to this particular copy here: Did you get tempted to join in the bidding as it went for $30,001 with a total of 53 bids?
  9. It sold for $4,401 which I found closer to what the CGC 5.5 than I would have thought, considering the difference in grade between the 2 books. Then again, what do I know.
  10. That Mask is my book, it's not being shilled. Don't believe TA was talking about the book being shilled at all. From his post, I simply though he was referring more to the strength and depth of the customer base when it comes to certain types or genres of books for these various auction houses.
  11. Well, surprise, surprise on the down side this time!!! That kind of fell short of the mark at only $6,812 and hardly any action at all in the extended bidding time periods for both of these BCM 50 copies here. Definitely makes that low grade raw copy going for $3,250 look like an outlier, as compared to these graded copies of BCM 50.
  12. Photo on CC appears to show some tanning along the edges of the front cover. If true might keep the price down, but I doubt it. Being the contrarian that I am, I always like to go to the back cover to double check since I find it so much easier to see the white colors there.
  13. With the kind of strong prices that we have seen on PCH books over the past few years, it would be more of a surprise to me if it DID NOT surpass the $7.5K price point. But as I posted in the PCH thread, I am starting to think that the $3,250 which the low grade raw copy of BCM 50 managed to get was probably more of an outlier as opposed to a reflection of the going rate for this book, even in this red hot PCH market. Like I posted in the other thread, if low grade raw copies are going at this price point I would go for any of the other Black Cat Mystery books. Too lazy to retype everything, so I will just copy and paste the following: After some sobering second thoughts on this book here, my thinking is that the above raw Fair copy going for $3,350 must be an outlier to the norm in terms of the price point for the BCM 50. Especially considering that there are already 75 Universal graded copies in the population census, with virtually every single one of them at a higher condition level than this raw copy pictured up above. If I was looking at paying this kind of money for a copy in this low grade raw condition, I would much rather shoot for ANY OF THE OTHER Black Cat Mystery books that are available in tonight's CC auction, such as these 2 here: From a simple relative pricing and census population point of view, especially considering their substantially higher grading condition levels, I would definitely consider either the Phantom Lady copy of BCM 41 or even the Harvey File Copy of BCM 46 to be a much better deal at their current price points of only a few hundred dollars a pop if they do somehow manage to stay down here.
  14. Well, it'll probably do better in the Exciting 59 face-off with the Schomburg airbrush cover since they were both equivalent CGC 9.0 graded copies with the same OW/W page quality. Especially since the Overstreet copy available on CC later today has quite a long ways to go to catch up with the CL copy which came in at $1,425 the previous week. I guess we'll wait and see in a few short hours from now as to who will win this much smaller dustup with respect to the Exciting 59.
  15. After some sobering second thoughts on this book here, my thinking is that the above raw Fair copy going for $3,350 must be an outlier to the norm in terms of the price point for the BCM 50. 16. Wowza, and that's with still another day to go in the auction plus the 3-minute extended bidding time periods where the real action can get hot and heavy sometimes. Looks like this CL 3.0 equivalent graded copy got completely rolled over then: Especially since it had the same OW/W page quality and yet was able to fetch only $4,155 for the consignor in the big CL auction the previous week.
  17. Trimming is not restoration. Sorry. Not applicable here but saw the word trimming and felt a need to say that again Never said that trimming was considered to be restoration as I was simply responding to the previous board member who talking about micro-trimmming and color touch. Speaking of which, trimming is something which is completely different from micro-trimming when it's been done properly.
  18. Definitely a lot of primo superb looking Big Apple pedigree books in this thread here. Since I don't own any of the Big Apple books myself yet and I always like to get a sample of the various pedigrees within my collection, just a question here. Any idea if the Big Apple books carries much of a premium or are they one of these pedigrees that tends to go for pretty much what an equivalent graded non-pedigree copy would go for, plus just a shade more?
  19. Was just scrolling though the CC auction listings in advance of their auction later this afternoon and thought this cover image looked familiar: Yep, looks like CL also had an CGC equivalent graded copy with the same PQ in their auction the previous week which managed to fetched something like $1,425. You usually don't have an almost real time face-off like this, so it'll be interesting to see if it's better to come to market earlier (i.e. the 9.0 graded copy from CL) or better to come in as the clean up hitter (i.e. the 9.0 graded Overstreet copy on CC later today). Even with CC's extended bidding format, I am probably leaning towards coming to market earlier since that's still a pretty huge margin which the CC copy would have to make up in order to reach the same price point. I guess we'll get to find find out in a few short hours from now.
  20. Moreover, if trimming and color touching were practices as accepted as pressing to still deserve a blue label, all comics today would be pressed, trimmed and color touched to get the most of your buck and that will be the new standard. Hmm although I found micro-trimming and color touching on cracked books that had blue labels but at least that is not a standard....yet Not sure about the color touch aspect, but when Heritage gets around to hiring Jason Ewert as one of their Consignment Directors or when Jason becomes the head of CGC grading, you'll know that micro-trimming is fully launched and good to go. That's also when all of the speculators and flippers will be running down to the nearest dollar store to buy the best pair of sccissors they can in order to take full advantage of CGC's latest strategy to get more new submissions by further maximizing the potential of collectors' books.
  21. Any guesses as to where this graded copy of Black Cat Mystery with the all-time classic cover will be closing at: Especially since I was just in the PCH thread and noticed this raw Fair copy selling for the out of this world astronomical price of $3,250: I imagine both the CGC 5.5 graded copy along with the accompanying CGC 3.5 graded copy both still have a long ways to go since they are currently sitting at only $4,800 and $3,401 respectively if the price of the raw copy is a somewhat accurate refelection of the real market action for this classic cover book. Well okay, maybe it's really the Frazetta interior art that's making this book pull in the big bucks here. Or not.
  22. Well, that should be a steal of a deal then, since there's no extra charge for the additional staples.
  23. The restored Action 1 already closed last night at $314,002. Hard to say where the CGC 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 38 will be closing at since it is currently still sitting at only $20.5K. Most boardies are figuring it will top out at around the $30K mark or thereabouts, which is definitely still a long ways away from the $54K mark that another CGC 3.0 graded copy was able to reach in one of the CC auctions a couple of years ago.
  24. I wish all comics other than mine were free. Better yet, I wish you would pay me to haul away some of your long forgotten GA books so that you would have more free space to store all of those red hot MA newsstand variants that you must be getting into your stores.
  25. Wowza indeed!!! If the raw Fair looking copy managed to fetched $3,250 whenever this auction was, it makes me wonder how high these 2 higher graded copies will end up going for in today's CC auction: If the sale price for the raw copy is any indication of the real market price for this particular all-time classic cover issue, I imagine there should be quite a bit of action during the 3-minute extended bidding time periods since both books seems to be running relatively low right now at price points of only $4,800 and $3,401 respectively. Will definitely be interesting to wach and see where these 2 copies end up at by the time it's all said and done.
