  1. And yes the 5.0 that sold for $57K is now up for sale on my website. Was a real sale, real buyer and a real book. Bob; Greatly appreciate your positive confirmation here. Now I understand completely why Metro didn't bother to include their 5.0 sale on GPA. Once they found out that the book was in your hands, they simply didn't want to go on record that they only managed to get a meagre $57K for the book when another dealer like you will be able to get so much more for the buyer. It's a case of they simply didn't want you to one upmanship them.
  2. No, as Lex's first appearance was in Action 23 with a cover date of April 1940, while Hugo Strange appeared in 'Tec 36 with a cover date of February 1940.
  3. Still, it looks like the consignor of this book would have lost a few thousand dollars (after auction fees) on this particular copy as this exact same copy had gone for $43,505 back in June of last year: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?referral=EAlist&id=666486&title=DETECTIVECOMICS
  4. Maybe it's already up there as a CGC 3.0 graded copy of 'Tec 38 managed to fetch something like $54,010 in CC's auction back in March of this year: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=676931 Any idea how much a CGC 3.0 copy of AS 8 would go for in today's marketplace?
  5. It is obvious to me that you are not taking the wisest approach to determining the proper value on these early Marvels if you are buying by the label, as opposed to buying by the book. Especially since CGC considers Marvel chipping to be a production issue and hence does not give much weight to this blatant eyesore in determining their final grade. Any yet at the same time, they will hammer the living daylights out of any near invisible tiny non-color breaking crease or stress that can only be seen when you hold the book up at a certain angle to the light. As a result, with these early Marvels and at the price that AF 15's are going for, the most important criteria is to buy the book as opposed to buying the label. This is why you will often see some absolutely beautiful CGC 5.0 graded copies relative to their assigned grades with no Marvel chipping, and yet at the same time see fugly "almost ripped apart" CGC 6.0 graded copies with huge Marvel chipping running down the entire length of the book. Which would you pay more for? It's an absolute no-brainer to me if I was into buying these types of books.
  6. Bob; Any truth to the rumours that you now have this 5.0 copy of AF 15 that sold back in March through CC and now have it on your site for sale? Just trying to confirm that the $57K 5.0 sale was actually successfully completed and if so, should then have definitely been included in the GPA reporting stats.
  7. I always thought there was an MH copy of Pep 22. Yes, although both of the Pep 22 and the Archie 1 are not listed in Chuck's MH Catalogue, Church copies of both of these books definitely do exist and was most likely snagged right off the bat by some wise and alert collector. I believe I read an article in either the CBG or CBM that Geppi had acquired both of these copies for something like $100K which was rather big news at the time. Not sure where they are right now, but rumours have them in the private collection of the Dentist when Geppi had to sell them off due probably to some of his financial issues at the time.
  8. That's for sure as that copy certainly looked a lot nicer than the relatively low grade fugly looking Conserved copy of MM 9 that sold in the April / May CC auction for almost the same price as the much nicer looking MM 9 here.
  9. So you will continue to keep books you had no interest in in the first place, at the price of not getting the book that you had always wanted. That makes zero sense to me, but okay. Trying to bring logic and sound reasoning to the boards again? I can give Tim 25,000 reasons why it does not make logical sense.
  10. Timeless for sure.Congrats! +3 Yes indeed.......congrats on a true timeless beauty on this classic Fox cover. Looks like your timing to pick this one up was perfect as all 3 of these early Mystery Men books in this particular auction seemingly sold off at a huge discount to what they had been selling for recently. Maybe the last 2 CC auctions managed to satiate the appetite of most of the Fox collectors out there.
  11. Is it just me or does it appear that the Archie books might be cooling off a bit from their past feverish heights? Especially considering the fact that I was able to pick one of them up in this auction here which normally never ever happens.
  12. Lou -- you have an uncanny knack for these sorts of deductions!!!! Or was it actually quite obvious? Why, it was absolutely no problem at all. You are most welcome and like you said, I always like to be upfront and state the obvious.
  13. GA´ s have been selling for crazy prices since 2016 ... Yes indeed, the GGA books and the romance books along with the Millie's and Kathy's in this particular auction along with similar girl titles have pretty much been on fire for the past couple of years ever since Bedrock and a few of the other boardies here have been going after them. Maybe now we need to look for some sexy cowgirls or funny bunnies in contorted into provocative positions in order to revive the long dead western and funny animal genre and light a fire under them.
  14. 40K-45K So close, and yet so far!!! So, with all of the talk on the GA boards about the CGC 9.4 Church copy of Seven Seas that sold for $25K in the CC auction today, I wonder which one of these 2 books will turn out to be a better bet in the long run. A Church GA Matt Baker classic GGA cover book at an unexpected 10X top of guide or a CGC 9.8 highest graded copy (for now??) of BB 54 with the first prototype appearance of the Teen Titans at more than 22X top of guide? I know where I would place my bet if I had to.
  15. I'm thinking I'd be way better off as a seller than as a buyer! Probably not really if you take a look at the auction as a whole. The problem is that on the boards we normally tend to focus only on the grand slams and the home runs. Although there's probably a lot of doubles and triples also thrown in there, I bet you there's a lot of bunt singles and even strikeouts that we just tend to skip right over. For example, there are almost 2,000 lots in this auction this time. Not too many unexpected grand slams like the Seven Seas 6 here, but I bet you there are a lot of the other non-key, non-classic cover, mid-run books that we just don't bother to talk about here.
  16. With all this talk about the high prices for the Seven Seas 6 and Planet books, did it seem like the Pep 22 kind of missed everybody's initial high expectations? Especially since it just kind of petered out as the auction for this book wound down and managed to pick up only about another $10K near the end to finished up at $252,100.
  17. So you will continue to keep books you had no interest in in the first place, at the price of not getting the book that you had always wanted. That makes zero sense to me, but okay. Anyways, we know that you do sell books from time to time, since you've talked about slabbing books early in CGC's history and selling them in one of the earlier online comic auctions. I did like the entire small run of Seven Seas books, but probably just the 6 more so than the others. Yes, I did slabbed some books way back when CGC first opened up for business, but that was really more just to sample some of their grading as opposed to actually needing to put them up for auction with Greg Manning for the money.
  18. Well, your prediction here certainly turned out to be 100% accurate as the 3 Mystery Men books didn't go for much money at all. Especially when compared to some of the big dollar sales that raw low grade copies seem able to achieve on eBay and Heritage. Consignors probably shouldn't have bothered to slab them since it didn't seem to help at all with the prices on this go round here.
  19. Outstanding! I was in that for a good while as well. Absolutely killer colors!! +2 Yes, the bright colours on that dress made me put this book on my Watch List for the auction here. No way was I going to bid this high on the book though. Looks like virtually all of the Planets and especially the Toledeo's pretty much went for top dollar here.
  20. Looking at what happened to the Spitfire 133 MH and this book you will have to find new living quarters Looks like I get to sleep in my own bed, but probably just for tonight. Made the mistake of letting my better half watch the Seven Seas 6 auction live on the computer since she came into the room at just the wrong time. She's now totally ecstatic and thinks I should put my SS 1 through SS 5 up for auction immediately. Especially since they must now be worth at least $125K as they are all older than SS 6.
  21. Well, it looks like we had all under estimated what this book was going to go for............especially me by a whole bunch. Now, it makes me wonder what the value of the Church Seven Seas 4 would be if it ever comes to market. Especially since Chuckles had the SS 4 listed as a NM+ copy while the SS 6 was listed as only a NM copy in his MH catalogue.
  22. like a champ Even if she's 50+ years old looking like a freight truck ran over her face and also packing on 350 pounds in her size 15+ heels?
  23. Beatings are good for the soul Especially if she's wearing black leather with high heels, I would assume!
  24. Why don't you just sell the other issues to fund your purchase of the #6? You never even wanted the others in the first place, and now you're missing the opportunity to buy the main book that you wanted in the first place, with no assurance that this copy will resurface again any time soon. Unfortunately, being a long-term collector by nature and habit, once something falls into my collection, it seems to stay there forever.
  25. I'm looking at the P's also Of course, I should have known that the current $242K high bid would have been yours. Makes me curious as to how high your max bid is on this book here.
