  1. The AF 15 that Clink just auctioned tonight was mine. So I guess I'll have to withdraw my membership from the AF 15 club. It was fun while it lasted! Pretty damn happy with the outcome of this auction though!
  2. It is the first Nazi flag cover. Key word being flag. The first swastika cover is Top Notch 2 which is also available in this auction. And quite the bargain comparitively.
  3. Maybe I'm misunderstanding... but why would the tax man care about what comics you were outbid on a decade ago?
  4. If you need somewhere to park some money in the meantime, there are some nice books in the ComicLink February Featured auction that could use a new home.
  5. I was trying to remember what I paid for a couple of books that I have in this auction, so I was checking my previous bids tab on CLink. In case anyone else was thinking of doing this... DON'T DO IT! Especially if yours goes back to like 2010. You'll want to find a time machine, travel back in time, and kick your past self's butt for being such a cheapskate.
  6. That would certainly help take away the pain of not owning it any more!
  7. My understanding is that it was somewhat common for the few stores that were setting aside new issues for repeat customers in the 40s to write the customers name on the cover as they set them aside. So maybe the OO asked them to stop, since he obviously wanted the comics in high grade. Or it's also possible he changed stores, possibly because of a move, and the new store didn't write his name on the cover.
  8. Not gonna lie, my reasons for going with CL had nothing to do with looking out for the consumer! I've sold a few things in the past through CL and everything was at or above the GPA comparables of the time. And so far, everything to do with the sale has been top notch on CLs end. I guess if in a few weeks everyone is talking about the sweet deals they got in this auction I'll know I screwed up, but for now I'm happy to be consigning in this auction!
  9. I sent it to Comiclink slabbed, and I don't know if they cracked it first before sending on to CGC or if they sent it in the holder.
  10. Depends how you define 'exiting the hobby' I guess. I always knew that to retire I would need to liquidate my collectibles, so with the strong prices in 2021, I accelerated that process by a few years from the original plan. So I'm exiting the high end collecting part of the hobby, but I'll always love comics and have them around me. Now it's just going to be in the form of hardcover reprints mostly.
  11. Might be in both our best interests if you help set the 'post-Promise' market with some strong bids!
  12. Pretty much this. I have nothing against the registry, but it's also not something that ever drove my collecting. If I had more time for my many hobbies, I would maybe have found time to put at least the Planets and Batman runs up on the registry. But that never happened, so now if someone wants to increase their registry point totals there are a few highest graded Planets in this auction!
  13. It did. I sent it and my Batman #1 which was in a PGX 3.5 holder in and the Batman #1 came back a 3.0 universal, so while the grade drop was unfortunate, getting a blue label on PGX book that valuable was still a huge win. And the .5 bump on the 'tec also helps!
  14. Three of these are mine. Not the #27 though, I never had the pleasure of owning that one. The #29, #35 and #37 are mine though. I bought the #29 and #35 on the board's buy/sell forum back in the day!
  15. Sorry, I didn't collect any Centaurs! Maybe someone else will consign some to this auction, there's still a couple of weeks until it starts! So far it's mostly my stuff for golden age!
  16. Most of the golden age previewed so far in the February ComicLink auction are my books. Including both the Suspense 3 and the Marvel Mystery 4 and most (maybe all?) the Planets listed so far. Regarding the Marvel Mystery 4, that isn't a tape pull, it's a weird printing error where the color didn't get applied in that small section. I purchased the book from MrBedrock back in the day, and I believe he got the book graded or at least has seen the book raw, so maybe he can explain it better than I can. It's an amazing book! I hope the new owner loves it as much as I did while I was it's caretaker.
  17. Might be time to start Bedrock City Auctions! You're even located in state with the most liberal rules for auction houses. I'm only half joking... It would be a lot of work obviously, but you're a very respected guy in the comic market, so given a bit of time I could see Bedrock City Auctions being right up there with the big three comic auction sites.
  18. A guy who gave himself the moniker of Robot Man isn't a sci-fi fan! I definitely didn't see that coming!
  19. Planet would definitely be #1 for me, but I also like Weird Tales of the Future and Captain Science!
  20. I think anything from Mid November to early January is bad for the seller (but good for the buyer). From US Thanksgiving until after New Years is so busy for most people in the US it affects the amount of time buyers have to look at comic auctions. In my experience the rest of the year is about the same.
  21. One of the best covers in the run. I've always been surprised that it's not more of a breakout price-wise than other surrounding issues. Maybe it's time has arrived!
  22. I'm selling pretty much my entire collection in the February ComicLink auction. I've sold with ComicLink before, and I like how they handled things, so I didn't really consider the other venues. I ruled out Heritage because of their fee structure. Maybe I could have negotiated something better with them, but I didn't feel like going through that hassle just to arrive a the percentage that Clink gives up front. I think Heritage sometimes gets more for items. Art for sure, but I didn't have any of that, and the big ticket items sometimes (but not always). I think the stuff in the $1000 to $10,000 range can really go either way, with just as many deals as there are records. There are even more deals to be had in the stuff that goes in the Sunday auctions. I built a lot of my collection with those, routinely getting books significantly lower than GPA. Since deciding to sell a year or so ago, I've been following all the auction results, and other than the Promise books, I think there are still quite a few more deals in the HA Sunday auctions than record breakers. I've never liked the format of comic connect auctions. Mostly that their auctions are so huge with so many ungraded and low priced books mixed in with the 'good' stuff. I probably shouldn't be such a snob, but I know as a bidder it could be frustrating sitting there waiting for 50 sub-$100 items to sell before the one you wanted to bid on came up. I do like their extended bidding system though. In the end, my very positive buying experiences with ComicLink led to me eventually selling with them. I've mostly been dealing with Jason Crosby there, and he has been excellent. They paid out the advance really quickly, he answers my questions quickly and has been great to work with so far. Obviously the really important part of this transaction (the auction itself) is still to come, but so far no complaints.
