  1. Not sure one has anything to do with the other....Original art is not being "graded" by the CGC, it's just one of the few places to discuss this hobby. I would like to think that a good portion of the work acquired is not primarily for "the return."
  2. No. Just an acknowledgement that they'll most likely come my way, because that's whatat least half the of the comments seem to be about as opposed to appreciation of an artist's work or lauding a specific page. It's mostly porkbelly talk, which is disappointing if you're like me and buy the work because you're a fan of the artist or title of the book and not what your "return" is going to be. To each, his own.
  3. Am an active buyer of comic art from most of the dealers and auction houses and have enjoyed this forum for many, many years. (Not really one to "throw my 2 cents in" but rather, just enjoy reading the conversations.) That being said, enough with the hourly/daily/weekly/monthly blabber about the "ROI" for these works and "how the comic art market is doing investment-wise." (The crash is coming" "The crash is here!" "The crash is never coming!!)) Doesn't every respectable art dealer (perhaps an oxymoron) tell you to "buy what you love if you can afford it?" If the work goes up in value, great. If not, you've had the time to enjoy it." Stop constantly diluting the enjoyment of the hobby Go ahead, start sending those heartwarming replies and I'll refrain from making another comment for 5 more years due to the slings and arrows sure to be coming my way. Happy Holidays to one and all.
  4. "But there are much 'better things" out there for the prices he commands." Respectfully, I don't even know where to start. I am sure as you site examples of those "better things," there will be many people who will disagree with your selections. I'm reminded of the ancient Greek proverb, "Opinions are like assh*les,"....everybody has one."
  5. IMHO....One of the "earmarks" of a "successful artist who should be worthy of God Status" is the ability of that draftsman to create works whose creator can be immediately recognized because of their uniqueness and singular style. You KNOW Kirby's works immediately upon seeing them. You KNOW Wrightson's works the second you see them and so on Adams, BWS, Byrne, Perez and dozens of other artists whose unique and identifiable style made them the legends that they are. A good percentage of comic art fans (with the possible exception of those more experienced "eyes" hanging around these boards) would be hard pressed to immediately recognize and identify S. Buscema's works upon seeing it. Being "competent" or responsible for volumes of work does not make the artist worthy of "god status." For every Frazetta there will be dozens, if not hundreds of sci-fi/fantasy artists who works will mostly go unrecognized or appear in the "can you tell me who painted this?" posts. For every Winsor McCay there will be hundreds of strip artists that no one will ever know and for every Frank Miller there will be S. Buscemas, Don Perlins, Ron Wilsons and dozens and dozens of other "competent" artists who may be "good and reliable at what they do," but will hardly stand the test of time.
  6. True....unfortunately, so much of it was over Kirby work that is very popular. What were they thinking when they used him for Kirby's drawings????...He literally destroyed EVERY page. Was it because he was fast and they needed the work done quickly? It certainly could NOT have been because he "enhanced" the work of the penciller. Sorry....momentary, quiet rant about the destruction of what would have been very "popular" work.
  7. Absolutely ANYTHING inked by Colletta. (scratchety scratch scratch).
  8. Can someone provide info for the dealer who had the FF page in the portfolio?
  9. Are you ever going to host one on the West Coast????
  10. "The Silver Age Market crashed"...I'm thinkin' that's your Jedi Mind Trick sending out the vibe to every FF collector who might be interested! ;-)
  11. Anyone have any idea how much that FF #6 @ 9.6 will go for? Ballpark??
  12. Thanks Jim! It's good to know, as I found it strange that I received the book back, graded and slabbed and yet, it didn't show on the Census...Guess I'll just have to be more patient and hope it shows up! Thanks a lot!
  13. Hey FF People-- This may be more of a CGC-related question, but it seems the FF people are more "on the ball," so here's the question: Just got back a few FF slabs from the CGC and it appears that some of them have not been posted in the FF Census. Does anyone have any idea how often the CGC updates the Census? Is it monthly or a non-specific time period? Thanks!!
