  1. Great pictures Chad. Now that I think about it the one that I almost bought before might've been an 8.5. Congrats on the book! Here's to hoping the upcoming movie doesn't suck.
  2. I wouldn't come near that price, especially in that condition.
  3. +1 TANT? Sounds like an STD... Teenage Alien Intergalactic Ninja Turtles.
  4. If it's the one I'm thinking, there was a very press worthy 7.5 that sold for a best offer of $1400. I was soooo mad because I was watching it, and going to place an offer for more than 1400, and BAM it was gone. The seller was in driving distance to me. I can't tell you how mad I was! Congrats if that was you. Great comic nabbed for very cheap.
  5. You didn't happen to buy that from ssalesfish, did you?
  6. So my baby came in from cyberjad. She's HUGE! I'm using the same photo he posted because he took a better picture than me. It looks very, very solid. The only color break I can find is the slightest hint of a corner ding on the upper left.
  7. Thanks, guys! Now to find a well worn, 3rd print reader copy. I also need to check Amazon and see what trade paperbacks are out there.
  8. From a moral standpoint absolutely, but I think legally he has enough plausible deniability to escape any kind of judgment. Even if he filled out his submission form for a third print he can simply say, "I thought I was wrong since CGC is supposed to be the expert."
  9. Actually I was wondering if the labels are produced by a CGC worker choosing a preexisting comic from within their database. In other words, Peter clicking the wrong one cost Paul $23,000
  10. You should call for the graders notes if your friend isn't local. I see a lot of dents that don't break color on that 7.5. If you're into the crack, press, resub game this could be an attractive copy to gamble on. And it clearly looks like a 1st print to me from the scan. But since it's your friends book you should be able to hold the book in hand and look for that black spot above Mikey's head and get a better look at the non-color breaking creases. Good call!
  11. Right. Which is why I looked at the nearest grade with more activity (8.0) and noted it has been going up in value. I use the relative increase or decrease in value and apply that proportionally to the year old 7.5 prices. If, for example, I see the next grade up or down has increased by 10% during the same time period I apply that to the grade of the comic I'm looking at. It's not an exact science, but I like it because it's my idea and I'm never wrong. Ever!
  12. Thanks for your quick reply! It's actually a buddies that I'm thinking of purchasing. He wants $1650 for it. Thinking of pulling the trigger. Here's the latest sales on GPA records for a CGC 7.5 Feb-23-2011 $1,100 Jan-16-2011 $975 Cert# 0939366001 Jan-08-2011 $1,050 Cert# 0170884001 Last sale was a year ago and they've gone up a bit since then. On the other hand, his doesn't have white pages. I wouldn't pay more than $1300 for it MAX. An 8.5 with white pages just sold on Ebay for $1400, though I think that was a really good deal. Ask him if he'd sell it for fair market value for a friend.
  13. Well, I would suggest doing a search on the internet for a forum where a copy has been sold before. That might be a good outlet to sell yours. PS: Welcome to the forum.
  14. Incorrect, you missed this on page 10. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5504932#Post5504932
  15. Crazy thing is, you change one company acronym in this sentence for another and we may very well be dealing with the same scenario in this situation. I know incompetence is a strong word, but from my perspective we're dealing with one of the most significant, if not THE most significantly important book of the copper age. Getting the printing wrong on a Batman 497 is one thing, its something TOTALLY different when were dealing with TMNT #1. I don't have a horse in the race with regards to this though. I will say as others have said this thread has been a gem of information and fun to follow in comparison to the 20 or Gerry Ross threads in general. Oh, I totally agree. personally I went from having very little knowledge about this comic to being able to identify all the printings from each other. Stronguy even discovered a way to tell first print from second print from the cover alone, something that to my knowledge had never been discovered for. I got way more than I was hoping for when I made this thread
  16. I don't think so. I didn't get that impression from the video, and his submission paperwork would have reflected 3rd print.
  17. I wonder how their process works for identifying and labeling comics. I know the comics get checked by a resto expert and then it moves on to three graders. I don't know who is responsible for identifying it, labeling it and imputing the data into the census. But... it looks like 9.8 copies just became more rare.
  18. Cool. His Ebay listing is ending tomorrow. I just tried to look up "Comic Mylars" in San Jose, CA so I can make him an offer, and apparently there's no business listing for that name.
  19. I have my eye on his 9.6 TMNT 1 but it's a bit pricey. The photos are too small for me to tell if it's a mislabeled 2nd print or a legit 1st print. There's another boardie who has TWO! 9.6's who still seems to be out of town. There's a pretty nice 9.6 in the sales forum now. I would be all over that if not for the unverified signature. For someone who doesn't mind that it's a gorgeous comic and the signature is obviously real.

  22. So what you're saying is.... you want to sell me one of your first prints?
