The big dude Stick is talking to is "Stone."
He was a character from Frank Miller's run. His name was in the credits after the show.

Invincible #1 in CGC 9.8 condition is still a $360-$400 if you look around. I was looking for a couple of months and picked one up for $365 last week.
For those thinking about getting one please don't listen to people promoting the book that also have some for sale. In the last couple of years we have seen a lot of people talking up issues that they consider a great investment and shortly after seeing these same people selling the same issue they were claiming was a great investment. If it's such a great investment why are they selling their copies?
If you are going to listen to someone listen to the guys who are claiming a comic is a great investment and are actually BUYING the comic. When I say buying I mean actually buying them. I'm not talking about claiming you are buying them and when someone contacts them they say they just purchased a bunch and are only looking for copies that are great deals.
These boards are supposed to be a community of comic collectors trying to help each other out. It's not supposed to be used as a way to pimp your comics by talking them up right before you sell them.
I agree with everything you are saying about this message board. You have to think for yourself and there is definitely a ton of pimping & carnival barking here on the boards.
However, I don't think it's happening with Invincible #1.
Jumps in price are sometimes related to a drought in the market.
Sure enough... a copy sold for $381 in September 2014...
then two weeks later the last 2014 sale was in October for $354.
Another copy didn't sell (on a source to GPAnalysis) until February 2015 for $488...
after no sales for over four months.
The book had been selling about once every 6 weeks... but you had no copies selling
during the holidays (or right after) when you might expect a copy or two to sell as a gift (or with spending money for self).
That February '15 sale (up almost 40% over October '14) set the price near $500, and the next 3 that sold, all in March '15, were $500+.
So... we've either established a new normal... or the pent-up demand has been met.
It's likely that we'll figure out which is true by summer.
100% agree with this.

I think Invincible's biggest problem is its success. SAGA is still only 20 issues or so. So is most everything else you guys are referring too at Image outselling Invincible. They're easy for new readers to catch up on. Buy one or two TPB's and you're good to go.
New readers are often intimidated by starting to read a new comic with 100+ issues to catch up on. The compendiums was a great idea. Making them as cheap as possible is key, so new readers have a way to join the series.
A true new jumping on point for new readers isn't a bad idea, but I hope the violence and action don't get sacrificed. New location with new enemies and storylines is fine. But Invincible has been firing on all cylinders recently and a new creative style in storytelling isn't necessary.
-
There is zero TV/Movie/Anything talk for Saga.
I thought I was in the Invincible thread.
You said you needed TV or movies for sales now a days. Saga is one of the highest selling books with no TV or movie hype.
SAGA is a different beast.
It came out during the current post WD speculation craze. Orders on #1 were massive due to speculation, then fans stayed because they liked the story. And despite BKV saying he has no intent of making a movie or TV show, speculators know BKV has many ties to those arenas.

Gotta give props to my LCS "The Comic Book Shop" in Wilmington, DE.
FCBD came early, they are giving the issue away for free to customers! (thumbs u

Thanks everyone! When I agreed on the deal, it was higher than any GPA recorded sale for the grade. In either case, the 90 day and last year average is now over what I paid.
This has been my experience with major keys as well. It's why I'm not afraid to offer a seller top GPA or over, if the book has the right eye appeal and qualities I want. (thumbs u

I just got done reading the first two trades of Invincible, I really like it! A nice superhero story with Kirkman's signature on it. It was weird, seeing Ryan Ottley's art looking almost exactly like Corey Walker's in issue 8. I look forward to reading more, and seeing Ottley come into his own as an artist, as I have the next three trades waiting for me to pick up at the library.
I'd rate this book an easy 8.5/10

Wait till you read TPB 3... game changer!
+1
I had the same reaction. The 3rd trade is where it picks up.
In my opinion, the first 13 issues are the true 1st arc. It's a shame the early trades are only 4 issues.
Whenever I've given this series to people to try, I always give them the 1st Hardcover that has issues 1-13. (thumbs u

Fingers crossed for Negan in season finale.
Based on the comic we're a long way from Negan. (About 30 issues.)
After this current storyline settles there's the "No Way Out" storyline, that has some pretty cool moments I'm curious to see how the show incorporates. (One really big moment, that shocked the boards when it happened.)
Then "Jesus" and "A Larger World." Then after all that we'll get to Negan.
Plenty of storyline left for them to explore. This show could last a long time.

The variant is the copy to score. Its tough to get that book as a 9.8. I am totally happy to see him getting attention. I have been on this train from day 1.

The Variant is tough to find in 9.8. I got lucky this past summer when mine came back a 9.8. (It's in my sig line.)
The Miles comics are fun entertaining comics. Well worth tracking down and reading. (thumbs u

Avengers #4 for me.
Not only is the cover iconic, but so is the story. People who have never read an Avengers #4, still know the story of what happens. It's a major part of Cap.
I always wanted an Avengers #4, now I have two. Avengers #1 on the other hand, the desire to own one isn't worth the current price tag.

Wow! Those frames are really cool and unique.
Perfect choice of books too, they look great!!

My ticket to the club has been upgraded. (thumbs u
My CGC 1.0 was sold to fellow boardie "SpiderTurtle."
This one is now under new ownership. It was previously claimed in this thread by "ThrillaFromManila." Who must have sold it to Graham Cracker Comics, because that's who I just bought it from.
My new ticket:

I sold Dat an Amazing Fantasy #15. He paid very quickly! Was a great smooth, fast transaction. A great guy to deal with here on the boards! (thumbs u (thumbs u

Awesome OA collection!

Rings a bell. Double checking Wiki it says there were a couple of issues Hama did not write but exactly which is not stated. I was only able to find out that Herb Trimpe, Eric Fein and Steve Grant were writers also. Although I would be quite surprised to find Larry Hama did not ultimately approve of the issues scripts himself.
He didn't write issues 9 and 10.
Idk if he had creative input into those. Be an interesting question for him. Especially since there is some Snake-Eyes origin stuff in those issues when he's hooked up to the brain wave scanner.

Always loved this cover. I remember being so mad when they killed Cobra Commander!
Then to see him return was awesome!

I've always thought that was a cool cover too!

That price is
But..... if they ever make a movie...
But seriously, it's a tough, tough, tough book to find in nice shape. That one has the big crease on the back cover; however, the front looks really nice.
