  1. A late arriving Christmas present - LSH vs. Universo by John Watson I became familiar with John's work through Aidan Lacy's Re-Legion series (a CAF gallery worth a visit) and through a painting in Miki Annamanthadoo's collection. Kathy had him create a painting for me based on a list of characters of interest (villains and heroes) and SA costumes.

  9. Should be in Marketplace. Not here. Here's the link to the Marketplace - https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/45-original-comic-art-marketplace/ Nice stuff.
  10. Kelley Jones finished Frankenstein, Alive, Alive! for Bernie and Liz. Bernie had done a fair amount and Kelley built on that. It was an excellent job.
  11. Christmas! I have a sub-theme centered on the non-existent Sugar and Spike 100. The main series went to 98 (in the US). In 92, DC issued #99 (DC Silver Age Classics Sugar and Spike 99), but there has never been a 100th issue. To fill the gap and to honor, Sheldon Mayer's most famous characters, I've commissioned a few 100th issue covers. I try to find artists with an all-ages feel and have them create the cover. Sometimes I participate a lot (Fred Hembecks' were I had a very specific idea that he nailed) and sometimes very little (Katie Cook where I just asked for her Gronk characters with S&S). This Christmas, Kathy arranged a tribute cover for Sugar and Spike #100 with Chris Giarrusso and Chris crushed it. He has a real feel for S&S and even recognized that that their dialog is not understood by adults and is represented by a dialog bubble that differs from the one that adults use. The story is a crossover where our troublesome toddlers manage to get G-Man's magic cape and run away with it. G-Man and his friends are in hot pursuit. Thanks to both Kathy and Chris for the wonderful cover. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1518829 BTW, Kathy said that Chris was easy to work with; that's not always the case on commissions. Thanks again, Chris. Chris (click to embiggen): Previously on this theme (click image to embiggen): Katie Cook Fred Hembeck
  12. Christmas has been very good to me. I’ve picked up four pieces to close out the year. Two featuring Sugar and Spike and two featuring the Legion of Super-Heroes On the S&S front, we have a new S&S 100 cover (my third cover for the non-existent 100th issue) and a preliminary cover layout (unused so far as I can see) for a Sugar and Spike comic by Sheldon Mayer. On the Legion front, we have a battle between Light Lass and two members of the Fatal Five and a nice page featuring Dawnstar from the 2010 run. I’m particularly fond of the Giarusso S&S cover, he has a real feel for those kids and worked them into a scene with G-Man that really rings true.
  13. There were some marvelous examples of artwork available to view. Here are a few pictures of the people, but not much of the art; I'm a lousy event photographer. I'm probably not going to get all the names right, but I'll try and I'll make any corrections. Back: Will ? (wearing the black sweatshirt) Closer: Phillip ? (in sandles), Mike Steenbergen (BCCC GM), Tom Coker Leaning over the table: Roger Kiem from San Antonio (the longest drive) Lower Right: Clayton Thorp Left: Will Davis (my MD, yep my doctor is a comic collector!) Right: John Johnson (no not my brother, but I do have one with that name, but a friend and co-collector of Will's since elementary school) Left: Clayton Thorp Next: Dennis ? (hands folded) Back to us: Don ? Elbow on table: Richard Evans (BCCC founder and Mr. Bedrock here) Mark Nelson was there, but I missed him the pictures so here's one from the web. He's a comic, Magic Cards, and D&D artist. Heck, he can draw anything. Carlo B and his wife Sarah (sp?) were there, but left before I took the picture. My bad. I probably missed others - not to mention the staff that stayed late. Fun event with more art than you see at a lot of cons.
  14. I found good prices by letting Google shop for me. I'd check every few days. I check on my HP Officejet 7612 (older model) and saw one for $131 with free shipping. I got mine for $189 and picked up at the local Office Depot.
  15. Plutona is an excellent book; looking forward to the movie. You might enjoy looking at this.
  16. I am ready! Sadly, I have six pieces to fit in five spots so though the first four are in like Flynn, the fifth spot may change right up to the last minute. Of course, I'm assuming nothing major for Christmas.
  17. I could have received mine IF I paid more for shipping. I decided to wait.
  18. I'll be there. I'm on vacation from 12 Dec to 2 Jan! I'm assuming that it is the store on Westheimer and S. Voss. Is that right?
  19. Robert Dennis and the rest can all handle tears. Even missing paper can often be repaired.
  20. That's exactly why I add this comment. The three people named are excellent, but there's likely someone local who is as well and if you are shipping valuable art, local is nice.
  21. In the many threads on paper conservation, the names that recur the most were: Robert Dennis agraphicstateofmind@verizon.net http://www.agraphicstateofmind.com/ http://www.agraphicstateofmind.com/comic_art_restoration_service.html Gordon Christman ggc2k@hotmail.com Gordon doesn't seem to have a web presence, but his snail mail address and phone number are: GORDON G. CHRISTMAN RESTORATION & CONSERVATION 330 SOUTH HORNE STREET #L OCEANSIDE CA 92054 TEL: 760 439 7970 CEL: 760 458 2290 Tracy Heft - Eclipse Paper trace@eclipsepaper.com http://www.eclipsepaper.com I would add that most major museums know of paper conservators. You might want to contact someone at a local museum and see if there is a conservator close to you.
