CGC would have failed if not for the registry. It pulled that competitive nature out of collectors and is a HUGE reason Brand X hasn't been as fierce of competition. I enjoy the registry, but have not used it for 2 years now due to my inability to have faith in CGCs grading, so my personal submission stopped.

Agreed on every point, and I will add the 500-600 set has added many new registry users. I mean WE knew Tec was the Cats Pajamas! And I still have about 50-100 books to sub, but haven't been happy with CGCs inconsistency

I am extremely confused at the later popularity of the run we collect. There was like 5 sets and then some heavy collections emerged the past few years.

My wife has been told, and my family as well that in the event of my passing to speak with 2 friends (whom they all know) and they would be able to move my collection within a few weeks. Same with my car, and skateboard collection. All she has to worry about is herself and our children. This is a big part of why my wife has always been included when I attend conventions, I am honest about what I spend on collectibles as well. It's when you downplay the collection and hide acquisitions that it becomes viewed as having little value and some guy on craigslist ends up with it for 2500.00...

Started a few years ago. When I watched the one collector who is slipping my mind start unloading all of his BA horror runs, I took notice. Since then a few people have cashed out (quietly or otherwise). Which makes me wonder about the stability of the hobby. If you are a collector, common books are cheap as dirt, but keys are insanely high.

50% of them are still confused there are so many grades other than Good, Fine, and Mint

Because they aren't afraid to tell you to take the BS to Comics General, and most don't venture out here

I'm going option 4, CGC continues their business as usual mantra and possibly increases grading fees 10% for no real reason. Seriously, name the last big change CGC made.

Thats good, and I think it is a good move for them. They have their place in the hobby, I have no problem with their service.

That would be nice. I miss seeing guys actually completing runs of books, not just flashing whatever key. I have fallen off reading the past year, I was reading quite a few moderns, but stopped finding time.

I like to come here from time to time, but sometime a few years back the constant bickering just turned me off. I like to come in and chat on occasion, I think I just have such a fond attachment to these boards as I started at one of the hardest times in my life and some great people gave me a way to forgot the negativity. Sadly, many of them are gone.

I am over 10 years of not giving a damn about AF 15.

Not sure if youre directing that at me. But no, there was a hell of alot more comradere than there is now. I'm not calling it "the good old days" I am stating that most of the new members are not here to "collect" comics.

Thats what bugs me I think. Everyone is money hungry, and collecting is an afterthought.

It's very sad. We had one heck of a community for over a decade and now this place is just kind of, different. I miss when this place was really about collecting.

insufficiently_thoughtful_persons on Facebook consider every book to be a grail and can have boxes of various grails. Those pages make my brain hurt.
