Axe Elf

It's cool how when you scroll through these, it looks like one single picture of an 80-foot tall bookcase full of comics.  

I posted this on the PGM board, but I don't know if you go there, and since you're the resident EERIE expert, I wanted to be sure to share it with you.

EERIE #25 was one of the last pieces of my full run puzzle to locate--most of the copies I was seeing were either shoddy 2.0-3.0 copies that people still wanted $15-20 for, or way overpriced ($80-$140) 4.0-6.0 copies.

So when I saw this one on Amazon for $6.95 + $4.50 shipping, I snapped it up.

It arrived yesterday, and while it may not rival your collection of NM masterpieces, I think it's probably still around an 8.0 or so; 7.5 at least (we'll see what the PGM board says).  It has a barely-color-breaking horizontal scratch under the lowest tree branch, and a little yellowing at the edges of the back cover, but other than that, it's pretty impeccable, with clean off-white pages.

Anyway, it feels like a score, and I am pleased with the purchase!

Good info.  I had read about the differences between the "authentic" version and the "2nd printing" (stuff about a bald-headed guy and lines on a house, but I could never see what they were describing in the pics); I just assumed those differences would be the same for any non-authentic version.  So that raises the question of what are the differences between the "2nd printing," which apparently does still have considerable value, and a worthless Xerox copy?

Now that I've had a chance to look at the individual posts more closely, that's a nice #23, but the #17 looks amazing.

(Well, they all look amazing, but for the more difficult-to-find ones...)

Questions on the "bootleg" EERIE #1...  I've seen "photocopy" issues for sale on eBay--is that what you mean by "bootleg"?  I also see references to "2nd printing"--which to me means the same thing, since there surely were no official 2nd printings of an "ashcan" edition--were there??

Also, the prices I'm seeing for the photocopy/2nd printings range from like $15 to $50, which seems pretty outrageous for a Xerox copy to me--but maybe they're just preying on noobs who don't know any better.  Or, I could be the noob.  Help!  Are outright fakes of #1 really worth as much as vintage regular-run issues?

Finally, what is your expert opinion on the value of an authentic #1?  I've seen two copies on eBay, both of which are still there (last I checked), listing for like $12k and $5k.  Seems like an awfully broad range, even considering condition.  I think the $5k one was even autographed (don't axe me who).
