This book is unrestored.  Just got this one at my LCS also.   Thanks in advance.

This is unrestored and just purchased at my LCS.  What are your opinions?  Thanks

OK Folks.  Truth time.  I wasn't trying to fool anybody or anything, I was just wondering if it was obvious or not.   This book and the Jimmy Olsen #1 I posted are both restored.

It was done in 1996.  Included cleaning, seal spine split, replace pieces to cover edges as needed, seal tears, (That is what you see on the back cover), Color touch if necessary, and Press. 

Normally I don't ever even consider purchasing restored books.  But, my LCS got these as part of a large collection.  I would not spend $5-10k on these books but to be able to grab them, even

though restored, at about $1,000 each I couldn't pass it up.  I would probably never own them otherwise.   

Thoughts appreciated!

I can’t see how this isn’t going to be a problem for the hobby.  The real test will come when collectors try to move books like this that are clearly overgraded.  I certainly wouldn’t buy this copy for 8.5 money.
 

IT IS a problem!!  There is no consistency.  I sent one in about 15 years ago that I was hoping might get a 5.5 but I thought it was really a 4.5/5.0.  It came back at 7.5!  With like 25 color breaking spine stress lines.   I sold it immediately but back then I think I got about $600-700 for it. 

You have me wondering how re-submitting mine (8.5) might do?

I agree with you.  I thought was a 7.5 AT BEST and probably a 7.0    But Congrats!!   I have an 8.5 as well that I think looks nicer. 

I think you've got a very attractive book there.  Enough positive qualities for at least 6.5!

That's a pretty book.  I would think 5.0 IMHO...

7.5 for me.

Before I looked at other grades I was thinking 3.5 with all that moisture warping, etc....   Hopefully I'm too low?

Maybe a 4.5?  Especially with that Aquaman 11 that was posted tonight at a 4.0 that looks far worse than this book.  IMHO...

Can you POST the other two books?   Or have you already?  I'm curious what those got.

BATMAN #227  CGC 6.5!   PRICE $650 

I took this with me to the Motor City Comicon 3-4 years ago.  The CGC representative kept looking at it and I told him I thought maybe it would have an outside shot at an 8.0?

He said, "I think you are really close this book has great sheen and looks high grade to me."  I was very surprised at the 6.5.  It may not quite be an 8.0 but it's one of

the nicest 6.5's you will ever see!!   If you pay the asking price I will cover the shipping.

BATMAN #120 VG/VG+ 4.0/4.5!  looks more like a FINE+ 6.5/7.0, but there is a 2" spine split at the bottom and detached from the bottom staple.
