  1. The juxtaposition of the facial expressions is out and out weird and disturbing to me.
  2. Wertham started his anti-comics campaign in the 40s, and he's the guy who started the whole Batman and Robin speculation.
  3. I have used a storage unit which was in a high ceiling warehouse, partioned by plywood walls, with chicken wire roofs. No Tom Cruise rig required. All someone would need to do is rent a unit, fill it with empty trunks or boxes, then cut the wire ceiling, crawl over the wall to another unit, empty the contents of its boxes, put the contents in the aforesaid empty trunks, and wheel them out to your car. No one notices the theft until the unit is entered and the boxes checked.
  4. Sort of a disturbing smirk to me.
  5. My twist on this topic would be this: Would a COVER ONLY of a Suspense 3 be worth more than a COVER ONLY of any of the comics above it on the list?
  6. Why would anyone pay $5K for a coverless Suspense 3? The only selling point is the Schomburg cover. Why would a COVERLESS Suspense 3 sell for more than Suspense 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 have recently sold for with covers?
  7. Thanks! I'll wait until I see the book in person.
  8. Don't have it in hand yet, and I don't speak Swedish. Bought it for the cover, and just trying to get my ducks in a row about how to preserve it best.
  9. Yesterday, I bought a copy of the Swedish Stalmannen No. 23, which has one of the most disturbing covers I've seen. What on earth is going on here?: But, here's the thing. As you can see, there's an issue with the staples. What's the best way to do a staple replacement - CGC? And at what cost? And what's the impact to the grade/holder? Thanks for any insights. I think the book needs to be preserved. The Grand Comic Database does not have one pictured on its site, so I think this is scarce and interesting.
  10. Beautiful book! Those corners are sharp! Wonder what it have graded at if there had been no erasure of the "C"[?] right of the issue number. Does that erasure mark it down more than the slight (seems cleaned) dust shadow upper right? To my eyes, I'd say yes.
  11. Where's the WW 1 Solicitation Copy and ashcan? They should be next to those two!
  12. Only seven comics have topped a $1,000,000 sales figure at auction. And, of those, two at least were bought by Hariri (who has a D27 in a fortress). He also bought the AS 8 which is only one of three comics to land in the $900K zone. And he may not be an active buyer at this point. So its a pretty shallow pool of buyers, maybe down to three or four active buyers.
  13. Matro was/is 8.0. The Allentown is owned by DA and could be best, given what some of the other Allentown's have hit. The D29 is a 9.6.
  14. I was the guest. I had a couple of woodblock prints. It was fun. And the market has exploded on the prints, so I'd love to see them re-appraised on their "vintage" episodes which tell you whether the items have gone up or down. I bought the prints for $600 each, they appraised for $2,500 each, and they now sell for $25K+ each. However, to fund the purchase of the prints I sold the original art for p. 2 of X-Men 125 (which I'd bought for $60 from Comics & Comix in the early 80s and sold for $1,600 - which I regret). Worked out ok as I'm still way ahead of where I'd be if I'd kept the Byrne page..
  15. Really really cool items! Did you buy them, or are you the guy in the Antiques Roadshow appraisal? https://www.pbs.org/video/antiques-roadshow-appraisal-rudolph-santa-characters-ca-1964/ I was on AR myself once.
  16. I meant that even more fundamentally, unlike with Action 1 and D27 where there are ungraded copies which are probably the best copies extant, the AA16 9.4 (Mile High/Church) is considered the best of ALL copies, including the ungraded San Francisco/Reilly copy (coupon clipped supposedly) and the ungraded Bangzoom copy (below), right?
  17. The Cap 1 9.4 is not even the best copy. AA is, right?
  18. On ebay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-If-The-Devil-Would-Talk-Comic-Book-1950-Black-White/254325828593
  19. And the seller is "only" seeking a 44% mark-up a year later. But, hey, maybe increasing the price from $156K to $225K makes sense because ...? I give up.
  20. The ebay listing started at $5,000 some time ago I think. So if he's trying to make a market he's doing a bad job. I suspect that its a very rare item. But, would you rather have a $4,000 photo of a comic or $4,000 worth of comics?
  21. I don't know your budget, but if you're traveling with an 11 year old son, I'd stay in mid-town, near Times Square. Kids like that area as it has fun and diverting things going on (the lights, toy store, Midtown Comics), it's got kid accessible fast and sorta fast food, and it is convenient to pretty much everywhere else you're going to go either by taxi or subway (for kid recommend the Central Park area attractions of the Met - especially Egyptian temple, Museum of Natural History, Zoo, etc.). Adults like that area because it is near the theaters, has good restaurants and bars within walking distance, and you can find nice hotels. Personally, I often stay at the Sofitel, but there are places for every budget including a giant Marriot. If you want someplace more hip, try the meat packing district. It's got the high line, the Whitney Museum of American Art, lots of good bars and restaurants, and is near some of the touristy stuff on the Hudson warterfront (Chelsea Piers, etc.). I tend to stay at the Gansevoort Hotel in that area, but the Standard Hotel High Line is supposed to be good.
  22. In the after market. E.g. cheaper blue versus more expensive b&w, I'm fine with the blue.
