  1. No, think of the glossy DC covers that are out today.

I don't think this is entirely accurate as the glossy DC covers are printed on slightly thicker card stock and very glossy.

The Rai #0 glossy cover was printed on what seems like regular stock except there's a glossy coating over the top. There's a sheen but not quite as smooth or slick as DCs of today.

Of course, this is what I gathered from the raw copy I own.

Anyone else care to chime in?

  2. Another way to tell is to put a glossy version against another Valiant book from the same period. You can immediately tell the difference. The glossy version has a bright, well, glossy sheen over the top. Almost like poorly applied varnish.

Anyone else with the glossy version agree with this assessment?

  3. Finished the Singapore Comic Expo and picked up over 20 sketches and some OA.

Met and interviewed some great artists: Olivier Coipel, Humberto Ramos, Cameron Stewart, David Mack, Harvey Tolibao, Frank Kozik, Alex Solis, Kim Jacinto, Phillip Tan, Andie Tong, Sonny Liew, and the list goes on.

I've got pieces all over the place.

Will be uploading pics with details on my CAF:

You can see raw pieces without the accompany details or stories on photobucket:

Here are some for those who need a prompting to click the URLs. PS: Can someone help identify the Coipel female drawing? He kindly did a sketch (no request specified) and whacked that up.

  4. How do I nominate someone to the probie list?

I bought 3 books from a boardie here. He shipped me one of the three and I'm out $190. Not alot of money but not chump change either.

I sent him numerous emails and PMs and also filed a Paypal dispute. He has ignored me on all occasions. I gave him the benefit of doubt as he hadn't been posting of the forums and notice he has since posted at least twice AFTER I sent him the emails an PMs.

    Suggestions?

Go ahead nominate them. From what I have read you have done more then enough.

Out of courtesy I've given the seller a couple more days to respond. Sent him one last PM and Email. Will post details if he doesn't make good.

Seller refunded me for the two missing books. Case closed. Life goes on. :)

  5. I think you have 45 days to file.

Thanks...I will check and make sure.

    Appreciate it

You should file a dispute before 45 days and also let the seller know you are doing so to protect yourself. You can always close a dispute after it's started but can't start one past 45 days.

  8. Saw a used HP Scanjet 3400C (CCD based scanner) today for 3 bucks but didn't pick it up as I googled it and saw that there's no support for Mac beyond OS10.5.

Vuescan says it supports it up to Win 7.

Anyone had luck with this one on Mac OS X mavericks?

PS: I know it was only 3 bucks but didn't want it to end up sitting there unused!

  9. the scammer is using a hijacked account.... that particular copy of af15, with the "june 5" date I used to own and it is in a new holder now...those pics, are from the auction I won the book from back in 2009 I believe...

I found that copy you mentioned when it was last 'sold' on eBay in 2013 but the lister got two negative feedbacks for not selling the book after it was listed twice? Pics used were the same (old CGC label). Was that a scam too?

  10. I finally dug out the short boxes so I could share the rest of my collection with my fellow Darkhawk enthusiasts.

    [/img]

    Holy Moly! :o

    +1

    and also...

    WHY?

I’d be curious to know why Boboset is so affectioned to it but yet says it was so-so and a "timecapsule" of the early 1990s. What do you mean by that?

Vaillant, here's why. It's a terrible book. The book has very little depth and clearly pumped out to get a bazillion copies out (Look, another #1!)

I dug out my raw Darkhawk #1 (found it next to the sealed NM+ copies of Nth Man, Barbie Fashion and Barbie #1 lol) and re-read it.

    Terrible origin.

    Here's a summary:

"Mum's a hot babe assistant DA working real hard to stop the mob. Dad's a beat cop with a mustache. I have two annoying kid brothers. Oh, look, my dad is taking mob money. Oh no, the mob is after my brothers. I have to save my family! Run!! Oh look, I found a stone that gives me powers and wraps me in superhero costume. I'll take care of the bad guys. Ouch, I got a cut but the bad guys are dead. I'm now a bad- superhero! Oh look, the cut has mysteriously disappeared"

  11. Since we're on the topic of art, here's some early early pieces of WD art I dug up. Nothing spectacular but it's from issue #10 (still large art!). Also #11 page 10 (also large art!).

    #10 p18

Full cast...only just. If you squint or use a magnifying glass, you might spot Rick. lol.

PS: apologies if you also saw this post on the OA thread. Just cross posting to share the love.

  12. PIcked this up from the boards a couple of years ago. The seller must have found a stack of them as he was selling copies from 8.5 to 9.2 all with WP and graded at the same time.

I wish I ponied up for the 9.2 because this book has gone up in value quite abit!

CGC 8.5 WP (ULC has small CB ding and the CB crease on bottom of cover brought it down).
