Received June 30th, Shipped July 21st. This was for a 26-card bulk submission.

I don't mind the label change as it has neutral colors. It will take some getting used to.

I'm really disappointed they're taking Subgrades away. Why totally take it away and just keep it as an option in case people want to use it??? I only use subgrades for my high-end cards or serial numbered cards to help differentiate between other copies of the cards also to show off the subgrades, (example: "like hey look this card has perfect centering or a perfect surface that other copy of the card does not") subgrades can help people choose the condition they want in a card when choosing to buy which copy they prefer because of subgrades.

Subgrades at $15 a card was a bit expensive, so I chose to use them for my "high-value" cards.

CGCcards, if you're watching, please re-consider keeping subgrades as an option and not totally take it away.

Hi all, thought I'd start a post on ideas/wishlist for CGCTC grading, maybe this post could be stickied if valuable enough for the community? or maybe a dedicated sub-forum could be made with a similar title, so users can explore and expand on ideas and discuss different aspects? I'm sure it'll benefit CGC and its customer/user base and attract more people to CGC and the community.

I've been a customer of CGC for well over a year now. I really like their slabs and I've used them over a dozen times for grading and have been happy with the results for the most part and I've become a fan.

I'll start things up with a short list and continue to add things when I think it'll benefit us the customers and CGC:

1. A choice in the color scheme of the label which could be an add-on. I figured if the card will be in a slab, might as well make it overall look good with matching colors or colors that go well with or complement each other. For example: The current label is blue with black font. What if the background was a different shade of blue, like dark royal blue or alien purple, and the font was white to show contrast? There should be limitations if there isn't enough contrast between the font and background. Maybe there could be a "recommended color scheme" that goes well with the card.

2. A label to differentiate between a "Pristine 10" and a "Perfect 10". A cool effect for the Perfect 10 label would be cool. Some people say the card should be the main focus, what if the label/slab/card were the main focus and centerpiece? They're joined together anyway, once that card gets slabbed, might as well look good all together.

3. Grading notes as an add-on. A hard copy for the customer and a copy stored in a database when you look up the cert#.

4. Putting the graded encased card in a sleeve to minimize damage to fresh slabs. Maybe this could be an add-on or a normal service. Little things like that show that the company cares for your encased collectibles.

For whatever reason, I cracked opened some of the slabs that I have to remove my cards.

Should we mail the labels back to CGC to take them off the database? Should we just toss them away?

I read somewhere on the internet that PSA or BGS slabs that were cracked open were sent back (labels) to them to remove the info from their database. Does CGC do the same thing?

I agree @rhunnicutt, the label looks better with subgrades. It looks like I'll only be using subgrades on certain, more expensive cards only. A few months ago I was contemplating getting subgradess on a bulk order, since the upgrade in price, I'll order grading w/ subgrades sparingly, especially on bulk orders.

Atleast CGC continues to make subgrades an option and that they didn't abandon it altogether.

@cyclonus11 custom and/or a more variety of labels would be nice, something to fill in that white space, if one didn't choose subgrades

The current CGC slabs are nice and clear, in that you can see the card very well.

What are the different features or characteristics of the current CGC Trading Card Slab that's not on the Main webpage? Is it for example, Scratch/scuff Resistant? Water-resistant or water-proof? U/V Resistant? Flame retardant? etc. etc.

Personally, I'd like to see more variety or options on different qualities/characteristics of CGC Trading Card Slabs, however, I like the current shape / thickness and clarity it gives when looking at a card.

Like, I'd like a graded card slab that offers U/V Protection and a more scuff or scratch resistant material or perhaps a more premier, thicker, substantial slab that has those features mentioned, sacrificing the HQ clarity for a standard clarity one but has flame resistance on it or something. That would be sick.

If you don't have a 3D Printer or know someone who has one, you can outsource it to a 3D Printing company such as Shapeways for a price, just remember to print with a softer material than the slab such as normal PLA filament, so you won't leave deep scratches on the side of your slabs.

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a re-holder for a recent CGC graded card that has scuffs on it (it arrived like that when I opened up the package after getting it graded by CGC). I thought I could live with those scuff marks on there, but It has been bothering me, since I wasn't the one that caused those scuff marks.

I received the package about 3 days ago.

Is it possible to get a re-holder without paying for the re-holder service, since the scuff marks weren't caused by me (and I doubt the secure cardboard packaging caused it)?

Also,

What's the difference between the $10 one and the $30 re-holder service besides the price? Different type of slab? Do the CGC employees treat the card more carefully with the $30 option?

And, Does the card get re-imaged/re-scanned again and the images re-uploaded to certlookup or will the images stay the same?

Thank you for approving my post Mike and good day!  I was just asking because I own a CGC Perfect 10 card that got recently graded which shows a small scratch on the card with the latest-enhanced zoom-in feature and was wondering about the magnification level number (10x, 20x, 30x, etc). With the pictures' original magnification (5x?) you can't see the scratch, but with it zoomed all the way in like that, its very clear there is a thin scratch.

Also to note, this CGC Perfect 10 card isn't really "perfect", a potential buyer pointed out a scratch on that card using CGC's current magnification feature on their website, which the scratch is hard to see without the enhanced magnification (if it can be seen at all) The recent grader most likely missed that hard-to-see scratch that's thinner than a hair, that can be easily missed without the required magnification/lighting to see it.

It could be a shift in their grading standards, who knows.

It doesn't hurt to carefully wipe/use compressed air on the card to blow off dust or lint and what not, to better present the card.

I got a couple of cards graded recently, and the Certlookup magnifier seems to zoom in way too much compared to the submission I sent in last month. The picture seems to be alot larger and zoomed in more--greatly enhanced.

Is the current Certlookup Magnification feature represented as 10x or is it higher now (like 20x or 30x)?

When I view the submissions I turned in last month, the magnifier doesn't zoom in that much compared to recent submissions like the one above.

As an experiment and also after being upset at the 8.5 grade (knowing that it deserved a higher grade), I cracked open the previous card case (which was graded April, 2022) the card was in very carefully using Youtube tutorials as a guide and re-submitted to CGC hoping to get a 9 or the same grade at the very least, but low and behold, when I opened the package on 5/23/22, I was ecstatic to see a Perfect 10 on the label with that previous 8.5 grade card. I am grateful for the Perfect 10 card as this was my first 10 from CGC.

What I did differently was I used compressed air (not full blast, but low steady flow) on the surface of the card and carefully placed it inside a brand-new penny sleeve and brand new semi-rigid top loader and decided to re-submit with a better presented card.

I was very careful with the process, I used gloves and handled with care throughout.

The previous grades were Centering - 9.5, Surface - 8, Corners - 10, Edges - 10.

I'm thinking that I got an 8 for surface because initially the card had some dust/lint on it. I did no preparation beforehand (no compressed air) when I sent it in the first time. Also, the top loader was a bit dusty and slightly worn from what I remember.

As for the centering, I don't know how it moved up half a point from a 9.5 to 10. I guess depending on the angle you look at the card, the centering will look perfect or off balanced.

You sounds suspiciously like a former or current professional grader hmmm..., sounds way to precise! LOL I know nothing of professional grading processes, but that was a good-sounding educated guess haha

 I'm not sure if I'll auction it off/list it on ebay or I'll probably keep it and hold on to it for a few more years as it accrues in value. It is a nice looking card and the centering isn't too bad imo. Yeah, I think I'll hold onto it.

Two submissions ago I got 2 cards graded...I used a small 6x4x4 box for those 2 cards. I'll consider using a bubble mailer with the cards sandwiched together with cardboard to reinforce it.

I agree about the subgrades, leaving it an option is good than to not have an option.

Since my last post I pulled 3 SSB Vegeta, Unbridled power cards and I currently have one listed with a print line defect on Ebay--along with other cards. I'll most likely get the other 2 Vegetas graded by CGC with subgrades, when funds and time permits.

I thought about doing a bulk submission as well, and will do one eventually, still up in the air, if I want them to all have subgrades, maybe only the high value cards (SPRs/SCRs) that I have will get the subgrades, just to save some money.

Hopefully grading becomes less archaic and becomes more precise and consistent in the future as technology ramps up.
