I have often wondered why Kirby Avengers pages were so "low." Between the great character content, the surge of Avengers popularity, and the scarcity of issues he penciled (8, compared with 100 FF books for example) I always felt these should cost more.

Great thread. I used to think I would be strong, but then a grail-ish piece from my childhood showed up for sale from "Seller/Dealer/Website X" It was bad. I held out for a long while. But it was one of those stupid scenarios where they raised the price a couple times after it didn't sell. In the end I swallowed my pride and paid up. It was during the pandemic surge and I didn't want the price to get raised even higher!

And this one doesn't suck either. Normally I like my WM pages to be nine panels and have word balloons on them, but in this case I'd make an exception: Watchmen

Don't forget the first appearance of Alpha Flight! And while I wasn't a huge fan of the Proteus storyline, friends (along with the Artist Edition) have been able to convince me that those issues are the actual artistic peak of the run.

Nobody asked, but I'll weigh in: Did ANY of the Byrne X-Men pages get live bids? Maybe the 2nd page got one? It seems like all three were "price discovered" before the auction. I don't think Rob posted any wins to Facebook. Could be a factor. I'd take the 137 cover over the 141 cover. 141 cover is better drawn, but doesn't give me chills the way 137 does. When I started collecting (early 2000s) here was a small mini-cabal of Byrne collectors who tried to convince the world that DoFP was equal or superior to the Dark Phoenix Saga... I never bought what they were selling. I LOVED the 137 page from this auction. Was 100% as good as it gets without being some key very specific A+ moment. (maybe this is why the DD181 went so high... no DD or Elektra, but very memorable scene)

What's the story with his Killing Joke Prelims? And by that I mean specifically, did Brian do multiple prelims per page for that story? (I've seen a bunch over the years each flushed out at very different levels of detail.)

This one is very nice, and the published cover is iconic. I think Bolland was the best cover artist of the decade, but I am shocked that someone will be paying 10k+ (including tax) for a prelim. Thoughts? Is his work so scarce that people will fight for whatever they can get? Bolland Wonder Woman Prelim

I have to admit, I was skeptical about this show given the price and airfare/hotel required.... but it looks like it's shaping up pretty well. I think East Coast in January was the way to go. Collectors eager for a break from winter?
